Historia
By the vow of her father and her own desire, Raederle was pledged to Morgon, Riddle-Master of Hed. But a year had passed since Morgon disappeared on his search for the High One at Erlenstar Mountain, and rumors claimed he was dead. Raederle set out to learn the truth for herself, though her small gift of magic seemed too slight for the perils she must face. The quest led through strange lands and dangerous adventures. Only her growing powers enabled her at last to reach Erlenstar Mountain.

Mispronouncing names is a problem
Revisado: 07-14-13
Any additional comments?
Loved the series, but the narrator for this section should have checked pronunciations of names. Hearing Heed instead of Hed was only the worse of her errors. Really a shame.

meh -- don't waste your time
Revisado: 12-12-11
Would you try another book from Brandon Sanderson and/or Jack Garrett?
no
What was most disappointing about Brandon Sanderson’s story?
desperately needed an editor. The word choice at times was unbelievable bad -- swords swished in combat? The length could have been halved by eliminating the repetitions. There was a good story buried in there, but it's not worth listening to the dross to dig it out. This is the second Sanderson book I've tried, and it will be the last.
Do you think Elantris needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
NO

Historia
Johannes Cabal, a brilliant scientist and notorious snob, is single-mindedly obsessed in heart and soul with raising the dead. Well, perhaps not soul.... He hastily sold his years ago in order to learn the laws of necromancy. But now, tormented by a dark secret, he travels to the fiery pits of Hell to retrieve it. Satan, who is incredibly bored these days, proposes a little wager: Johannes has one year to persuade 100 people to sign over their souls, or he will be damned forever.

I want the prequel
Revisado: 01-31-11
I was surprised to find how much I came to care about Johannes, but his brother Horst won my heart. I hope Howard writes the earlier story -- how Johannes and Horst ended up in that crypt, and what happened to Johannes' wife. Johannes isn't an easy character to empathize with, but his story enthralled me.

good book, poor reader
Revisado: 12-27-09
I was really looking forward to hearing this, one of my favorite Resnick titles. That anticipation ended before the end of the first paragraph. The reading is one of the worst I've heard on Audible. He hesitates in the wrong places, puts emphasis on the wrong words, and is very slow in parts. For example, when the sentence has 'he said', there will be a long pause before those words. Very distracting -- it's impossible to stay immersed in the tale. Very disappointing. I'll avoid this narrator.
My advice is to forgo the audiobook for the printed version. Too bad. This is such a fun romp to read. Resnick turns the tropes and cliches of fantasy and hardboiled detective tales and makes them fresh.

A cult classic in the United Kingdom since its first publication there in the 1970s, Don't Point That Thing at Me is the first of a series of hilarious and dark-humored crime thrillers featuring the Honorable Charlie Mortdecai: degenerate aristocrat, amoral art dealer, seasoned epicurean, unwilling assassin, and acknowledged coward.

snarky fun
Revisado: 07-27-08
This is a prime example of how a great narrator can improve a book by a superb narration -- Simon Prebble is perfect for Charlie Mordecai, and I look forward to hearing more adventures.
This is good, snarky, fun. I wouldn't want to buy art from Charlie, but I think I'd love to have a few drinks with him, and Jock. They are wonderful characters in a romp of a tale.

Historia
Great Britain, circa 1985: time travel is routine, and literature is taken very, very seriously. England is a virtual police state where an aunt can get lost (literally) in a Wordsworth poem and forging Byronic verse is a punishable offense. All this is business as usual for Thursday Next, Special Operative in literary detection. But when someone begins kidnapping characters from works of literature and plucks Jane Eyre from the pages of Bronte's novel, Thursday is faced with the challenge of her career.

want unabridged!
Revisado: 04-01-07
The only complaint I have is that two of the funniest parts of the novel were cut out. I hate abridged versions! If you enjoyed this title, do yourself a favour and read it! I hope this will be released unabridged.

narrator disapointing
Revisado: 04-01-07
I love Reginald Hill's novels, and thoroughly enjoyed an earlier audiobook, Deadheads, read by Col in Buchanan. However, Brian Glover, the reader on this and, sad to read, several other Hill audiobooks, in not in the same class. The character voices are inconsistent, he seems to be almost screaming in many parts, and his accent is hard to understand. I'd give this a two, except that Hill's writing almost overcomes the defects caused by the reader.

The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

Thief of Time
Revisado: 03-25-03
This is the first Pratchett audiobook I've heard that wasn't read by Nigel Planer or Stephen Briggs. The multicast reading is a nice change, all readers do a great job. And of course, the tale is pure Pratchett magic.
