Too much...

What would have made Great Mythologies of the World better?
I was hoping this would be more of an overview. Instead, it seems to just consist of retellings of myths without a lot of analysis or commentary.

Maybe not enough material for a whole course
Revisado: 11-30-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Designed for business people. As a writer and writing instructor I was looking for some fresh ideas. This seemed to be really focused on convergent / divergent thinking. Several lectures were devoted to this pretty elementary concept.
Would you be willing to try another one of Professor Gerard Puccio’s performances?
I don't think so. A professor who says 'expecially'? Really?
Any additional comments?
Disappointing.

So much God
Revisado: 10-04-16
What disappointed you about Divine Intuition?
So much God in this. I couldn't get past that. I've read / listened to many other books on intution and the religious aspect wasn't so strong in others. Didn't work for me. Also seemed to be more memoir than how to.
Has Divine Intuition turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lynn Robinson’s performances?
No.

Historia
It's summer 1893, and the Norwegian fishing village of Åsgårdstrand is preparing for the arrival of well-to-do guests and bohemian artists from the city. Local girl Johanne Lien dutifully gathers berries for tourists and poses barefoot for painters as 'The Strawberry Girl'. Johanne becomes a maid for the wealthy Ihlen family, whose wayward daughter, Tullik, recruits her as a go-between in her pursuit of the controversial painter Edvard Munch.

The accent matters!
Revisado: 10-04-16
Would you be willing to try another one of Jo Woodcock’s performances?
Not unless it was set in London.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
This story is set in a Norwegian fishing village, about the painter Edvard Munch. So why does the narrator have a Cockney accent? It matters, folks! It takes me right out of the setting and into the streets of London. Returning.

Historia
Summer, 1936: Gone with the Wind, Margaret Mitchell's first novel, takes the world by storm. Everyone in Hollywood knows Civil War pictures don't make a dime, but renegade producer David O. Selznick snaps up the movie rights and suddenly America has just one question: Who will play Scarlett O'Hara? The Trouble with Scarlett is the second in Martin Turnbull's series of historical novels set during Hollywood's golden age.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-21-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Had high hopes for this, but I had to stop listening about halfway through. Between John C. Zak's wooden narration and Turnbull's often awkward writing, it just didn't work for me.
What was most disappointing about Martin Turnbull’s story?
The writing is often awkward; Turnbull uses strange metaphors and passive verb forms too often. Factual errors were also a problem. For instance, one character went to a end of Prohibition party with Errol Flynn. But Prohibition ended in 1933 and Flynn didn't come to Hollywood until 1934. Makes me wonder if this book was edited at all.
How could the performance have been better?
John C. Zak's delivery is wooden; that's bad enough, but he also can't pronounce words like 'foyer' and 'segue'. Really?
What character would you cut from The Trouble with Scarlett?
So many.
Any additional comments?
Very disappointing.

Great material; terrible reading
Revisado: 11-04-12
Would you try another book from Joseph Murphy and/or Jason McCoy?
The Power of Your Subconscious is an excellent book. This production of it, though, is awful -- the misspelling of 'subconscious' on the cover should have tipped me off. McCoy doesn't understand what he's reading, mispronounces words constantly. Come on -- if you don't know how to pronounce something, look it up!
Would you be willing to try another one of Jason McCoy’s performances?
Never!
