Historia
Dorky, socially awkward entomology student Evelyn wakes up one morning to find herself as some sort of alien-human hybrid trapped on an unknown planet. Once the initial panic winds down, she quickly learns she's capable of producing more of herself: additional bodies all sharing one mind. Being well-versed in sci-fi tropes, she quickly resolves to not devour the planet and turn into an unflinching biological armada, and instead uses her new powers to try and help as many people as possible. Unfortunately, it turns out that helping people is often very, very difficult.

Hive mind struggles with anxiety and emotions
Revisado: 11-18-24
Hive minds give good hugs
Girl is self conscious, and has severe anxiety and panic attacks when she just thinks about her own anxiety. She befriends a hive mind. She herself becomes a hive mind. Her anxiety continues to hamper her.
I'll start with the good. The premise is very interesting, and I like how the main character initially deals with gaining new bodies, meeting people, solving problems and so on. The beginning, and right before the climax were good. If you like listening to emotional topics, and can deal with heavy subjects then you might enjoy this. The narrator did a good job of keeping voices different for each character. There was one error where the narrator said something that was for a different character, but it was only once so I consider it very good.
The bad part is that certain parts of the story are too long for me. Evelyn spends a lot of time thinking and discussing about being accepted, ethics, morality, and so on. Some parts did not transfer well to audio, like the section with frantic text messaging back and forth.
The climax was okay, but it felt like the story itself fizzled out. The very ending felt out of left field, but to be fair it was an acceptable resolution to the story. If the story was trimmed by sliming down the internal conflict I think it would have been better. As it is now, I didn't care for it.

Light novel
Revisado: 10-30-24
The main character was isekaied into the world and is exploring it. I have seen the Anime and wanted to check out the light novel. Overall it was enjoyable. Pretty slow paced compared to the show, but it was fine. Overall I enjoyed it.

It also includes the bonus Hell for the Holidays, a 24/7 Demon Mart Christmas special. Lloyd Wallace is the most clueless crossing guard the intersection of hell and earth has ever seen. So clueless, that he doesn't even realize the beer cave in the corner store where he works is the gateway to hell.

Stuck in retail hell
Revisado: 10-30-24
24/7 Demon Mart was a fun story. Perpetual loser gets a job at a convenience story that also doubles as a portal for demons. He and his team members have to fight escaped demons. It has interesting characters. The main character has very little character growth though. Otherwise it was fun.

Parody as a travel story
Revisado: 10-30-24
The stories are political commentary on empires and kingdoms at the time of writing. Unfortunately the references didn't make much sense to me since 300 years have passed since the writing. The stories that are not about politics were interesting, like the Yahoo island of horses, and the classic story where Gulliver is a giant compared to the little people. The reader did a good job.

Power is changing. Private corner offices and management by decree are out, as is unquestioned trust in the government and media. These former pillars of traditional power have been replaced by networks of informed citizens who collectively wield more power over their personal lives, employers, and worlds than ever before. So how do you navigate this new landscape and come out on top? Adam Grant, Wharton organizational psychologist, went to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the epicenter of power, and sat down with thought leaders from around the world, to find out.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Good idea, weak execution
Revisado: 10-28-24
This has a cool premise, but the execution of it just didn't work for me. The narrator was not the right choice for this work. The ending was weak, but acceptable. Wish the author had tightened up the story and cut out some of the parts that didn't add to the story.

Anyone can become a hero
Revisado: 10-28-24
This was a fun story. Basically the main character is a disabled orphan, and tried to protect her fellow orphans during an alien attack. Because of this, a third party alien group gives her special powers and upgrades her to being a "samurai." This gives her powers, utilities, items and so on based on points. The more aliens she kills, the more points. Kat is a fun character because she both cares about other people, and also likes killing aliens in interesting ways. There was some hinting that she liked women throughout, but it wasn't entirely clear to me until the end. It felt natural and did not detract from the story. Overall I enjoyed it.

The first of her kind, she's let loose into a universe of superheroes on behalf of her sinister masters to destroy all who oppose them. And everything's going according to plan—until NSLICE-00P gets hacked and sent into the past to kill her own creator before he creates her. Obeying orders as always, she wastes the poor guy. Unfortunately, there are consequences to initiating a reality-breaking time paradox. The most significant: total ejection from that reality.

An interesting take on an isekai
Revisado: 10-28-24
Overall I enjoyed this book. It made me laugh a couple of times. The main character is a cyborg where the ai is more important than the human mind. They end up working together in this new world. There were a few long blocks of stats, but I tended to skip through those.
