The performance was good, but there's only so much they can do with a story that manages to drag on and on, despite being fairly short.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader was ruined by an overly bombastic reader, who came off as condescending rather than energetic. I couldn't even finish it. His 'voice' for Reepicheep was annoyingly cartoonish. His inflections & tone for Lucy were almost as bad, deliberately making her sound as stupid as possible. Action scenes were torture to listen to. He was practically screaming, and instead of being caught up, I kept having to fast forward until he calmed down. I haven't disliked a reader so much since hearing the 'great' Roy Dotrice mangle Game of Thrones.

Starts out great...and then. Toward the middle of the book, the storyline begins to drag. And drag. And drag. And doesn't 'pick up', despite an almost desperate effort to build suspense in the last couple of chapters. By the time I got to the author's final effort to force yet another few thousand words out of the story, I was desperate to just shut it off. Repeating : 'Oh my god, will you just end it already?' But there was still an hour left. The three stars are for the first half of the book. The last half could have been CUT by half. At least.

If you're on the fence, don't be. Aside from 'the book is always better', Will Wheaton does an amazing job with the narration.

Good story. AWFUL narration. Did NO ONE check the pronunciation? At all? Ynyr is NOT pronounced 'yay nar'. Two previous books, very well done, everything pronounced fine, and then the third book, the BEST of the trilogy, is ruined because no one could be bothered to double check pronunciation. Returning. Can NOT listen to someone saying 'yay nar' over and over.

Skip it. Really. I don't know enough about Margaret Beaufort to know if she was the sociopath she's depicted as, in this book. But it wasn't at all enjoyable to listen the raving of a religious zealot with no redeeming qualities. I doubt anyone who skips this book and moves on to one of the others in the series would be missing anything. At all.

Overall, I liked this book very much. But toward the end, it really seemed like the author was struggling to meet the word count. With the main character being 'out of the loop' in sanctuary at the time, I suppose that shouldn't have surprised me. The author *did* stick with that character, though, rather than moving to another's viewpoint, as so many others would have. And the ending does make you want to know what happens next. So overall, worth the listen.

Starts off great. A lot of interesting info. Then kind of meanders off into introspection, which is fine once in a while, but not chapters and chapters of it. Then, instead of going back to descriptions of their journey, the author skipped over it completely to fill space with chapters full of gushing praise for the mormons, and how 'great' mormons are. My eyes haven't rolled that hard in a long time.

I love this series, and won't let a slightly dissappointing read of this one keep me from buying the rest, since each seems to have a different person reading them. And I can't say this reader was terrible. Just inexperienced, perhaps? Or not well directed? Her voice is quite lovely. But her pacing and pronunciation need work, both of which can throw you out of the story. (hearing the name 'Dickon' pronounced 'die conn' made me cringe)
