Mrs. MacCallum does a great job telling story about her relative and his sacrifice. She also gives you a great overall view of the Pacific theater of war. I hope this inspires you to read a more in depth book on the Pacific theater of war but this gives you a good start with a very personal story.

Historia
In his critically acclaimed Armageddon, Hastings detailed the last twelve months of the struggle for Germany. Here, in what can be considered a companion volume, he covers the horrific story of the war against Japan. By the summer of 1944 it was clear that Japan’s defeat was inevitable, but how the drive to victory would be achieved remained to be seen. The ensuing drama–that ended in Japan’s utter devastation–was acted out across the vast stage of Asia.

What a life lived.
Revisado: 02-26-20
Mr Gaddis does an excellent job telling George F. Kennan's story and his importance for history. Kennan's impact on the world is probably not know to most Americans and that is a tragedy. Also I think some of Kennan's analysis of the Soviet Union still holds true to current Russia which makes this a must read for any non Russian wanting to understand Russia.
Most interesting to me was Kennan's thoughts on Kennedy and Reagan and his dealings with those two administrations.
Take the time and listen or read this book. You will also get a little Kennan's poetry along the way.

Historia
The extraordinary career of George Catlett Marshall - America’s most distinguished soldier - statesman since George Washington - whose selfless leadership and moral character influenced the course of two world wars and helped define the American century. Set against the backdrop of five major conflicts - two world wars, Palestine, Korea, and the Cold War - Marshall's education in military, diplomatic, and political power, replete with their nuances and ambiguities, runs parallel with America's emergence as a global superpower.

Great Man but only a good book
Revisado: 01-30-20
Mr Roll provides you a lot of good information on General Marshall and I would recommend people read or listen to this book but also read or listen to others on the subject. This could have been a great book, but Mr Roll does virtue signaling throughout the book. He does this by opining on matters where he has no documentation but wants to imply or infer his opinion on the matter. He also brings up President Trump at least 4 times in the book on General Marshall and all seemed to take away from the story and didn’t add to the book. The first time was probably the worst because he brought up Trump Tweets as a comparison to Senator Joe McCarthy use of speeches it just seems to be a blatant attempt to link Trump to McCarthy and it really takes away from the book. The reader was excellent and really made the book a pleasure to listen too.

Historia
The definitive history of Austria’s multinational army and its immense role during three centuries of European military history. Among the finest examples of deeply researched military history, For God and Kaiser is a major account of the Habsburg army. It shows how the Imperial Austrian Army, time and again, was a decisive factor in the story of Europe, the balance of international power, and the defense of Christendom...it was the first pan-European army made up of different nationalities and faiths, counting among its soldiers not only Christians but also Muslims, and Jews.

Historia
The real collusion in the 2016 election was not between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. It was between the Clinton campaign and the Obama administration. The media-Democrat “collusion narrative”, which paints Donald Trump as cat’s paw of Russia, is a studiously crafted illusion. Despite Clinton’s commanding lead in the polls, hyper-partisan intelligence officials decided they needed an “insurance policy” against a Trump presidency.

Historia
In August 1942, an overconfident Adolf Hitler would attempt to invade Stalin's namesake city on the Volga. The battle of Stalingrad is extraordinary in every way: the triumphant invader fought to a standstill; then the Soviet trap sprung, surrounding their attackers; and the terrible siege, with Germans starving and freezing, forced to fight on by a disbelieving Hitler.

From one of our finest military historians comes a monumental work that shows us at once the truly global reach of World War II and its deeply personal consequences. Remarkably informed and wide-ranging, Inferno is both elegantly written and cogently argued. Above all, it is a new and essential understanding of one of the greatest and bloodiest events of the 20th century.

Excellent book with a very different point of view
Revisado: 11-13-19
Hastings does a great job taking you through the years from so many different POV's. Most WWII books take you through the battles view of the Generals Hastings gives you POVs of civilians, mothers of soldiers, wives and the list goes on. He really lays out the horrors of this war and their impacts on the combatants and the civilians as the war progressed. Hastings like all authors has a bias but his is very slight in my opinion. I highly recommend reading this book before reading other WWII books.

Historia
It is the 20th century's unrivaled epic: At a staggering price, the United States and its allies liberated Europe and vanquished Hitler. In the first two volumes of his best-selling Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson recounted the history of how the American-led coalition fought its way from North Africa and Italy to the threshold of victory. Now he tells the most dramatic story of all - the titanic battle in Western Europe. D-Day marked the commencement of the war's final campaign, and Atkinson's astonishingly fresh account of that enormous gamble sets the pace for the masterly narrative that follows.

Rick Atkinson did an amazing job with these three books. He provides the reader with a lot of information but doesn't overload you with that information. I wish that all three books would have kept George Guidall as the reader. Also it would have been very nice to have PDF's for all the maps and photos for each of the books for you to use to better understand the battles.
