This is far different from your average sports biographyy. It involves the entanglement of so many individual groups as well as people - with Wooden anchoring the narrative - that it is more a retelling of the ‘60s and ‘70s and all the turbulence and moments of joy. Be sure to have tissues at hand when you reach the “Epilogue.” This is a moving book for the most enthusiastic lover of basketball to the casual fan.

I never read The Wind In the Willows, though I often heard of it. The story is simply delightful I laughed aloud and got misty-eyed throughout. This gentle story of four animal friends and their exploits is suitable for all ages. The narrator deserves high praise as well. He gives each character distinct voices and personalities that make the book come alive. Looking for a charming, well-told story? Then buy THIS version of The Wind is the Willows.

This installment of City Spies had all the wonderful twists and turns I’ve come to expect in the City Spies books. I will not give anything away, but we learn more about Mother’s humanity and the pasts of the other Spies. This book, however, tells the story of Rio in detail. This is his book, My only critique lies with the narrator. Her voicing of the Spies proved confusing at times as she sometimes lacked the differentiation of voices. She has done better in earlier installments. Still, the book is excellent. If you’re a fan of the Spies you will enjoy this book; if this is your first encounter, do yourself a favor and dig into previous installments.

This is part of a series of books about a very young boy named Fudge and his older brother Peter. Fudge is 5 yrs old in this volume, which I enjoyed more than the other Fudge books. It is told from Peter’s perspective, and Blume made me laugh at the scrapes Fudge gets them into. Blume is just adequate as the narrator. Worth a listen for a funny, lighthearted story.

I wager you will enjoy this book if you are a fan of the Victorian period. The trappings of the period are painted on with a heavy brush, and the story is highly predictable. Still, it is an interesting trifle for those interested in the period.

First, though all the Vanderbeekers are prominently featured, this is Laney’s story. Her struggles and joys are the core of the book. Be prepared to shed tears but to rejoice as well. This is as fine an ending to a series that I have heard. We get reintroduced to ALL the characters in a blessed reunion at a very special event. Notice that I’m not giving any plot lines away? I will say this: if a young child is going through a trying, at times scary, rough patch, this is the Vanderbeeker book to get. It also shows how family pulls together to provide strength in fear. Top-notch as always. The narrator is commanding and nuanced as well. How she keeps the different voices…well, different, is a work of artistry. Brava!

If only all teachers has a passion for teaching like Mr. Done. His love for his charges and his profession shine throughout every story he tells. I would not label this a “children’s book;”rather, it is to be savored by adults. This a funny, often poignant “slice of life” told by a teacher in short supply these days. A must-listen!

The tale of the mischievous leprechauns and their attitude towards Halloween is precious, simple, and cute. It clocks in at 30 minutes, a perfect length to help those young and old to
fall asleep. Kat does a delightful job narrating the story. A cute winner.

I believe this City Spies novel did not live up to the previous three books in the series. Ponti’s work lacked the intense intrigue and detailed character development I have come to love (and expect). We do watch Kat grow in confidence, but at the exclusion of the other spies. The addition of Mother’s son Robert needed more depth, as did the relationship between Robert and Clementine. Also, the book seemed shorter and more slap-dash than the previous three, as if Ponti were furiously working under a looming deadline. I will say that Ponti has once again done his homework, interweaving facts and knowledge about Cairo and surrounding areas. Overall, though, the result was a somewhat vanilla entry in the series. I look forward to a more action-packed next book, especially given the major cliffhanger delivered at the book’s end. One more note: The narrator once again does an impeccable job voicing all these characters and the situations in which they find themselves. Don’t pass on this book, but don’t expect the same high quality as the others.
