Historia
A howling funnel of destruction screams across the prairie and slams into the sleepy town of Promise, Oklahoma. As the mammoth twister splinters homes, shreds crops, and tosses cars through the air, only three of the town's terrified residents know that an even more malevolent force has come to torment them...and they will not live to tell anyone.

Keeps You Guessing
Revisado: 06-06-04
If you want a fascinating story that keeps you on the edge of your seat - please read "The Breathtaker". I began this audiobook on a Saturday morning while doing laundry. I didn't stop listening until it was over - all 10 hours. I kept trying to guess the "mystery" part of the book but had to change my mind 4 or 5 times. Peter Coyote was masterful at narrating this book. The sound effects also added to the suspense. When I finished listening to the book I immediately looked for other audiobooks by this author but was dismayed to find none. Give this book a chance but don't plan on stopping until the very last word.

My, Oh My!
Revisado: 04-25-04
This is the third Kate Wilhelm book I have listened to and must agree with the first reviewer. I had trouble distinguishing one man's voice from all the other men's voices. They not only sounded alike but had the same tone and "attitude" in their voices. I also noticed that 6 or more times the author repeated the same sentence or two. It was a little annoying.
But more annoying than that was the plot....I live in Oregon and could listen to the beautiful descriptions of the rivers and mountains endlessly. But I doubt many southerners or easterners really want to spend that much time learning about the Northwest landscape. But the most annoying thing of all - I got tired of being lectured to regarding every subject imaginable from the environment, homosexuality, societal shortcomings, timber cruising and even futuristic technological dangers!
You may well enjoy this novel - I couldn't wait for it to end.

Historia
Here is the epic story of Vietnam and the sixties told through the events of a few tumultuous days in October 1967. With meticulous and captivating detail, They Marched Into Sunlight brings that catastrophic time back to life while examining questions about the meaning of dissent and the official manipulation of truth, issues that are as relevant today as they were decades ago.

Factual, balanced, even-handed and overwhelming. This audio book is indeed thought-provoking at the least and full of sadness and a sense of waste. It should be required reading....

A Little Too Trite
Revisado: 10-20-03
As with Luis, I hesitate to disagree with the previous reviewers but I was a little disappointed with this book. The characters (with the exception of the "heroine") were too one-dimensional for my liking. They possessed no redeeming qualities which may work for one truly "sick" individual but this major lack of dimension holds true for almost ALL of the characters.
I felt the first half of the novel bordered on a Janet Evanovich novel and the last half was entirely too overbearing. The plot however, did hold my interest and made the book worth listening too.
As long as you are not looking for a Lawrence Block or Michael Connelly novel you will enjoy this trip into a dark and disturbing world.

Historia
The messages waiting for Henry Pierce when he plugs in his new phone clearly aren't intended for him. They indicate something has gone terribly wrong for a woman named Lilly. Pierce probes, investigates, and then tumbles through a hole, leaving behind a life driven by work to track down and help a woman he's never met. Connelly's latest is "a grabber from the beginning...utterly compelling."

The premise stinks
Revisado: 07-27-03
I tried twice to listen to this audio book - but had to give up after 2 hours even though I was determined to finish it. (After all I PAID for it, didn't I?). From the first 10 minutes the premise on which all following plot was based was ridiculous. Even though I put my intelligence on hold in order to trudge through the story I just couldn't do it. I don't know ANYONE who would have taken the same path as the "hero". I realize I look at things a little differently than a lot of people and many may enjoy this story....but those who require a little bit of reality won't.
PS. I have enjoyed most of the author's other works so this may just be a fluke.

A Challenge and it's worth it!
Revisado: 07-22-03
This is my first Robert Littell book and I must admit it was a little confusing at first. However once I got into it this story kept me guessing right up to the very last sentences. Full of twists and turns and very plausible American "foreign policy". It made me think and taught me a little about the American Revolution to boot!
It was narrated by Scott Brick who is one of my favorites and he made the story a pleasure to listen to. Not everyone will agree but you should all judge for yourselves....it is worth your time to do so.

Terrific Plot
Revisado: 07-19-03
This audiobook kept me enthralled - I hated to stop the tape because it was so interesting. I love legal novels and thought by now I "knew it all" but I learned a great deal about our legal system. Well developed characters, interesting twists and turns, and a location that is new to most of us. One of my favorites!
