Historia
The Barnes family is in trouble. Dickie’s once-lucrative car business is going under—but Dickie is spending his days in the woods, building an apocalypse-proof bunker with a renegade handyman. His wife, Imelda, is selling off her jewelry on eBay and half-heartedly dodging the attention of fast-talking cattle farmer Big Mike, while their teenage daughter, Cass, formerly top of her class, seems determined to binge drink her way through her final exams. As for twelve-year-old PJ, he’s on the brink of running away.

Despicable narcissists buzz through a convoluted plot
Revisado: 05-01-24
There’s no doubt Murray is a very gifted writer. Too bad he doesn’t seem interested in making characters who display any gift beyond self-indulgence. PJ is the only character i cared about, but i imagine in a few years he’d be as hideous as the rest of the family. The best ecological gift would have been to spare the paper, the lumens and the audiotape.

Historia
Ami Ayalon seeks input and perspective from Palestinians and Israelis whose experiences differ from his own. As head of the Shin Bet security agency, he gained empathy for "the enemy" and learned that when Israel carries out anti-terrorist operations in a political context of hopelessness, the Palestinian public will support violence, because they have nothing to lose. Researching and writing Friendly Fire, he came to understand that his patriotic life had blinded him to the self-defeating nature of policies that have undermined Israel's civil society.

This book was a revelation: captivating, balanced and clear-sighted about the present and the future.
