Historia
Before Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, and Doonesbury, there was Art Buchwald. For more than fifty years, from 1949 to 2006, Art Buchwald’s Pulitzer Prize-winning column of political satire and biting wit made him one of the most widely read American humorists and a popular player in the Washington world of Ethel and Ted Kennedy, Ben Bradlee, and Katharine Graham. Dean Acheson, former U.S. Secretary of State, called Buchwald the “greatest satirist in the English language since Pope and Swift.”

Buckwald lived a fascinating life, and that is captured here. I found this to be the value of the book. Maybe humor has changed over the years, but I didn’t find any of the so-called “humor” amusing.

Historia
On a cool, overcast afternoon in April 2016, a salacious tip arrived at the L.A. Times that reporter Paul Pringle thought should have taken, at most, a few weeks to check out: a drug overdose at a fancy hotel involving one of the University of Southern California’s shiniest stars—Dr. Carmen Puliafito, the head of the prestigious medical school. Pringle, who’d long done battle with USC and its almost impenetrable culture of silence, knew reporting the story wouldn’t be a walk in the park. USC is the largest private employer in the city of L.A., and it casts a long shadow.

Great storytelling. So many bad actors abusing power. LA Times and USC shown in a dismal light.

Any additional comments?
Nice little story here of a Chicago ex-cop turned actor. Nostalgic 80's feel. Well read by James Lewis.

Historia
One of the most popular Fortune articles in many years was a cover story called "What It Takes to Be Great." Geoff Colvin offered new evidence that top performers in any field - from Tiger Woods and Winston Churchill to Warren Buffett and Jack Welch - are not determined by their inborn talents. Greatness doesn't come from DNA but from practice and perseverance honed over decades.

Well researched
Revisado: 08-09-11
This is the type of non-fiction book that I enjoy. It's written for the lay person, not requiring great scientific knowledge. But, it does provide much in the way of facts and research. The conclusion, that hard work and effective practice, is reached clearly and early in the book. The remainder is also of great value: what to do with that knowledge. Narration is excellent.

Strong History Rich With Behind The Scenes Details

Probably better in print
Revisado: 04-11-11
I have no doubt that Mr. Middlekauff deserves the credit he's been given for this great historical account of the time span leading up to the American Revolution, through the Continental Congress. The book contains so many names, and facts, and descriptions of military battles, I would think written form would be better. I take nothing away from the narration, Mr. Fass is excellent. I found it very difficult to stay focused, and in parts, wish I could see maps to better understand the battles. I think an abidged version, pared down to the information better suited to audio, would be a good idea.
