Historia
In physicist Stephen Hawking's brilliant opus, A Brief History of Time, he presented us with a bold new look at our universe, how it began, and how our old views of physics and tired theories about the creation of the universe were no longer relevant. In other words, Hawking gave us a new look at our world, our universe, and ourselves. Now, Hawking presents an even more comprehensive look at our universe, its creation, and how we see ourselves within it.

Basically the same as A Brief History
Revisado: 02-01-25
If you want a follow up to reading Hawking’s Brief History, this is a good book. If you’re looking for a deeper understanding or looking for new considerations, this isn’t the book.

Historia
This landmark book is for those of us who prefer words to equations; this is the story of the ultimate quest for knowledge, the ongoing search for the secrets at the heart of time and space. Its author, Stephen W. Hawking, is arguably the greatest mind since Einstein. From the vantage point of the wheelchair, where he has spent the last 20 years trapped by Lou Gehrig's disease, Professor Hawking has transformed our view of the universe. A Brief History of Time is Hawking's classic introduction to today's most important scientific ideas.

This sad tale of Martin Dressler is told through an imagined weird development of Manhattan during the late 1800s & early 1900s. Guidehall’s narration added to the enjoyment of the book.

Ned Kelly's name resonates in Australia the same way the name Jesse James does in America. Was he a crusading folk hero or murderous horse thief and bank robber? Who was the real Ned Kelly? As the impoverished son of an Irish convict, Kelly was cheated, lied to, and abused by the English. Committed to fighting back against oppression, Kelly and his gang of outlaws eluded police for nearly two years.

Characters didn’t come alive

The interview with the author at the end was the most enjoyable part of the book. The book itself was slow and plodding and didn’t come alive for me.

Boring

Historia
At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Henry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse.

Slow and plodding

I so wanted to love The Shipping News but it didn’t happen. The book is slow, plodding and seemingly comes to no point, though it does as a slice of life. The narrator did his best to bring the prose to life.

Things have never been easy for Oscar, a sweet but disastrously overweight, lovesick Dominican ghetto nerd. From his home in New Jersey, where he lives with his old-world mother and rebellious sister, Oscar dreams of becoming the Dominican J. R. R. Tolkien and, most of all, of finding love. But he may never get what he wants, thanks to the Fuku: the curse that has haunted Oscar's family for generations, dooming them to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-starred love. Oscar, still waiting for his first kiss, is just its most recent victim.

Taylor's tale of a Tennessee family engaged me in ways that most novels about upper middle class to wealthy people typically don't, especially many of the earlier Pulitzers. Boyd Gaines possesses a warm baritone voice that's easy to listen to.
