Poor Audio Quality, Disorganized story.
Revisado: 05-03-24
It begins with poor audio quality and by chapter 4 it falls off a cliff. This title is virtually unlistenable, poorly organized, poorly read. The worst audible I've ever purchased.

Historia
Spanning the years between 1968 and 1976, these never-before-published letters show Thompson building his legend: running for sheriff in Aspen, Colorado; creating the seminal road book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; twisting political reporting to new heights for Rolling Stone; and making sense of it all in the landmark Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72.

A fantastic continuation of 'The Proud Highway'.
Revisado: 08-11-21
I wish Malcolm Hillgartner could re-record some of Hunters earlier books, perhaps as extended editions. No offense to Scott Sowers, but I can't get into his somewhat louder, high pitched readings if Hunters work. There is just such a vast difference in tone, it makes impossible for to get into the content.

Historia
Here is the private and most intimate correspondence of one of America's most influential and incisive journalists - Hunter S.Thompson. In letters to a who's who of luminaries, from Norman Mailer toCharles Kuralt, Tom Wolfe to Lyndon Johnson, William Styron to Joan Baez - not to mention his mother, the NRA, and a chain of newspaper editors - Thompson vividly catches the tenor of the times in 1960s America and channels it all through hisown razor-sharp perspective.

A must read/listen.
Revisado: 08-10-21
A fantastic book that shows the evolution not only the writer but America. My favorite aspect of this book is the voice narration. It is a perfect reading that keeps you engaged. I have found it difficult to listen to other HST books narration because they tend to have just too much flourish in a cartoonish type of way. Malcolm Hillgartner has this wonderful almost newsman voice, that reminds me of the old network announcers. other readings for different books get to horsey and inflict too much on particular sentences, or situations. for instance, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas has a real "Hey man/Far Out" sound to it, that gets very distracting.

Historia
When Nicholas Meyer was asked to direct the troubled second Star Trek film, he was something less than a true believer. A best-selling author and successful director, he had never been a fan of the TV series. But as he began to ponder the appeal of Kirk, Spock, et al., he realized that their story was a classical nautical adventure yarn transplanted into space and - armed with that insight - set out on his mission: to revitalize Trek.

A wonderful book!
Revisado: 05-14-21
A day doesn't go by where I wonder to myself 'what would George say about this'? I remember seeing his name from the marquee in Vegas shortly before he passed, and told myself 'I'll see him next time'. George Carlin was a huge influence on my life, and I will always cherish the laughter, honesty an introspection that he brought to our universe. he was a loner that didn't make you feel alone. Thank you to everyone that put this book together,.

When Kurt Cobain died by his own hand in April 1994, it was an act of will that typified his short, angry, inspired life. Veteran music journalist Charles R. Cross fuses his intimate knowledge of the Seattle music scene with his deep compassion for his subject in this extraordinary story of artistic brilliance and the pain that extinguished it.

A moving and honest book, about life and choices.
Revisado: 11-13-20
Sad, beautiful, and moving. Rather than focusing on all the rock star BS, this book instead follows the journey of a little boy on a snowy hill with his family. There is nothing sensational or scandalous, just a story of a boy from a small town whose life is upended by divorce, violence depression, Ritalin, doctors and friends. This book makes him a real person that many, myself included, can identify with. It's blunt without being reckless or disrespectful, and it doesn't point fingers or assign blame to a particular person group or substance. This is a wonderfully written and narrated book and I think it's subject matter is very important and meaningful.
