Historia
This groundbreaking audiobook offers a new analysis of the British Army during the "American rebellion" at both operational and tactical levels. Presenting fresh insights into the speed of British tactical movements, Spring discloses how the system for training the army prior to 1775 was overhauled and adapted to the peculiar conditions confronting it in North America.

Editing was trash, people should be fired
Revisado: 09-24-24
This excellent book was ruined by the editing of the audio. Repeated lines over and over, a dog barking, “that’s not even a word” frustrations by the narrator who should know that is how 18th people wrote when performing a history, cell phone noises. I hope Matthew Spring finds out about the atrocious editing of the audio and gets some just compensation. This is the worst performance of one of the best books about the American Revolution.

World War II began with a metallic roar as the German Blitzkrieg raced across Europe, spearheaded by the most dreaded weapon of the 20th century: the Panzer. No German tank better represents that thundering power than the infamous Tiger, and Otto Carius was one of the most successful commanders to ever take a Tiger into battle, destroying well over 150 enemy tanks during his incredible career.

Revisado: 01-04-23
Wow, this is garbage illogical non-linear crap. Aw the pooooor German army has a poor historical reputation. Sorry brah I don’t have a cookie or a blankie. According to this author The west were the real war criminals. There was a holocaust, vaguely but only in the east, but all the war crimes about the Germans were myths. The only war criminals were bomber oil apparently. Seriously who published this crap.

What is heroism? What are its moral components - altruism, love, self-sacrifice? Why was it once celebrated, and now often dismissed as anachronistic? In this dramatic and readable account of last stands in history - famous or otherwise - Walsh explores the stakes that led men at very different times and places to face overwhelming odds and certain death for the sake of family, home and country.

Insulting to this generation’s veterans
Revisado: 12-15-21
Apparently my Ranger, and Advanced infantry, and jumpmaster training as well as my two years of combat were all unnecessary because I already was a man and manhood was all I needed. Man that was a waste of time. Apparently I also useless and my service not meritorious because as a feminist I’m ruining society and I can’t possibly be tough. This is the kind of combat toughness ideology that causes suicide because the realities of war could not be more different than this insulting garbage.

Great Story
Revisado: 09-15-18
Other reviewers claim that this book is fake. However, Vietnam Veterans association gives it a positive review, and as a veteran myself, I have noticed that when veterans challenge uncritical nationalism and the romantic war, then people on the extreme right tent to question their service. As a fellow Airborne Ranger, I endorse this book as a great read. Its extremely well written for intellectual audiences, and anyone who wants to understand the motivations and abilities of elite soldiers.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

An Excellent Writer Making Fun of Bad Writers
Revisado: 09-15-18
I listened to this back to back. As a writer of history, sci fi is a guilty pleasure, but this was a useful text too. It was essentially a writer at the top of his game irreverently poking fun at poor writing. A fun, intellectually stimulating, guilty pleasure book that I can't wait to have time to listen to again.

Historia
Called "the preeminent survey of American military history" by Russell F. Weigley, America's foremost military historian, For the Common Defense is an essential contribution to the field of military history. This third edition provides the most complete and current history of United States defense policy and military institutions and the conduct of America's wars. Without diminishing the value of its earlier editions, authors Allan R. Millett, Peter Maslowski, and William B. Feis provide a fresh perspective on the continuing issues that characterize national security policy.

Historia
General Robert E. Lee is well known as a major figure in the Civil War. However, by removing Lee from the delimiting frame of the Civil War and placing him in the context of the Republic's total history, Dowdey shows the "eternal relevance" of this tragic figure to the American heritage. With access to hundreds of personal letters, Dowdey brings fresh insights into Lee's background and personal relationships and examines the factors which made Lee that rare specimen, a "complete person."

Perfect for tiki torch marching males who want to feel like good people. If your a little upset about the 13th amendment, then this is your book.

Winston Churchill is perhaps the most important political figure of the 20th century. His great oratory and leadership during the Second World War were only part of his huge breadth of experience and achievement. Studying his life is a fascinating way to imbibe the history of his era and gain insight into key events that have shaped our time.

Seriously?
Revisado: 11-14-17
How can you screw up a Winston Churchill’s biography. Making Churchill’s life so unreadably boring frankly had to have occurred on purpose. My theory is that Spencer was reading through the colorfully magnificence of Churchill’s life and was like “how can I make this boring.” While rereading Leopold von Ranke, Spencer tripped over a copy of Braudel’s Mediterranean and shouted “eureka. I’ve finally discovered the key to my masterpiece.”
