In Nottingham, England, widow Emma Taylor finds herself in desperate need of a job. She and her beloved daughter Olivia have always managed just fine on their own, but with the legal restrictions prohibiting widows with children from most employment opportunities, she’s left with only one option: persuading the manageress at Boots’ Booklover’s Library to take a chance on her with a job.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

For Nerissa and Tom, this will be their first Christmas as a couple, but making sure they have time for each other will take some careful planning. But when Jake’s mum offers them an unexpected gift, their plans are turned upside down.

Not a complete book
Revisado: 09-01-24
I didn't understand when I purchased this audiobook that it is not a complete book. It's approximately 1/3 of a book, just 3 hours of "vignettes," none of which are complete stories in themselves. They push the story along from the prior book but nothing is resolved. There is not even a short-story feel to these chapters. I don't understand why the book was released in this form. I do like the story and characters in the series overall, and I like the narrator. But I'm feeling cranky about having the book just cut off abruptly.

Historia
In the northernmost reaches of Scotland, where a string of little islands in the North Sea stretches towards Norway, lives Gertie MacIntyre, a proud island girl by birth. Her social circle is small but tight: family and friends, particularly the women in her knitting circle. In the whitewashed cottages of their hometown, everyone knows everyone, and the ladies of the knitting circle know more than most. In a place of long dark winters and geographic isolation, the knitting circle is a precious source of gossip, home, laughter, and comfort for them all.

Historia
Christmas comes early—far too early—to McCredie’s little Old Town bookshop in Edinburgh. It’s summer, but an American production company has decided that McCredie’s is the perfect location to film a very cheesy Christmas movie. After all, who can resist the charmingly narrow historic street with its Victorian grey stone buildings and warmly lit shop windows? Carmen Hogan, the bookshop’s manager, is amused and a bit horrified by the goings-on, but the money the studio is paying is too good to pass up.

My favorite series
Revisado: 10-31-23
Just as good as the first — and the first might be my favorite audiobook in this genre ever. Excellent story, excellent characters, funny and heartwarming. Carmen is the best; wry and real. Outstanding narration. Can’t get enough of the bookshop and books. Someone please write Up on the Rooftops! I hope there’s a third yet to come.

This book is lovely - excellent characters, excellent writing. One of the smartest books in this genre that I’ve ever read. It’s a love poem to books and bookshops, and an insightful observation on trauma and grief and family and healing.

Historia
According to polls conducted by Gallup and the Pew Research Forum on Religion & Public Life, the majority of Americans fail basic tests about religion, including tests on their own faith. This is troublesome because religious literacy is about so much more than naming deities or knowing the stories of ancient history. For many of us, religion is a way to examine and understand ourselves. These 24 enlightening lectures offer you the chance to experience the world's religions from all angles – historical, theological, and cultural.

Historia
A heartwarming, uplifting village romance for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Cathy Bramley. Buying a thatched cottage in the country may not be the usual cure for a broken heart. But after Clara Maxwell finds out her boyfriend and best friend have been sneaking around behind her back, packing her bags and leaving everything in London behind feels like it's the only way forward. When Henry Garnett, her (rather handsome) new contractor, turns up with his little daughter Pansy and a van shaped like a cottage in tow, she isn't sure whether to laugh or cry.
