A Favorite Series Now

I was new to David Bald acc I when I read the second boo
k in this Amos Decker series. Memory Man is the first. I've listened to four of the first five books and really liked the first three. The fourth was not as enjoyable to me but I'm going on to #5 soon. Was thrilled to learn that Mr. Baldacci is from Richmond, VA, a city I lived in for 8 yrs and may return to.

Spectacularly rich and varied

Unlike any book I have experienced. Mr. Palahniuk offers some of the best, most inspiring and yet intimidating advice to writers available anywhere. The advice is clear and repeated. The joint inspiration and intimidation arise from the fiercely colorful personal stories he relates, because they set such challenges to the writer's fictive imagination. Nothing can remain the same after this book. Thank you for that, Mr. Palahniuk. Mr. Ballerini's narration is brilliant and authoritative.

Not her best work though the buildup was good

As you may have gathered from the headline, the real disappointment came in the ending. It seemed that the "solution" to the crimes and clues was as solid as tissue paper held together with chewing gum and tape. I found the killer unconvincing. And the apparent reasons for his crimes and the quirks of the plot unsatisfying. There were also unanswered questions about major characters. But on the plus side there were some good scenes and the heroine is all too human and likable on top of it. I usually like this series.

Another good title from Petwr Grainger

I've enjoyed every book I've listened to from this author and his excellent narrator. I must say though that there's a certain sadness and anticipated loss as the shrewd detective grows older. He's quite likeable.

It was okay

I've read or listened to several of Harlan Cohen's novels and always enjoyed them, even the Myron Bolitar books though I am not drawn to sports-themed material. This one has a few distinctive features, such as the relationship between the protagonist and his twin brother and the mysterious events at the heart of the book. But I could have laid the book aside without finishing it and that would have been okay. I never felt driven to find out what happened.

What a great listen.

This book impressed me with its pacing, compelling story, and ability to keep my curiosity level high throughout. Some really great twists and surprises. The author is a new favorite in the company of writers such as Ian Rankin, Michael Connolly, Michael Robotham and others of their standing.

Disappointed

I've listened to most of Carol Wyer 's DI Robyn Carter audiobooks and have enjoyed them. This time, I was annoyed by repeated changes in tense and point of view. Plus, the monotonous narrator who lacks the ability or willingness to expressively differentiate the characters (except for the young child) added little. Everybody pretty much sounded the same, including men and women.
