Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Slide In Road
Revisado: 08-11-24
The old people in his stories are not helpless although they may be infirm. They come through when needed.
Especially the old Vietnam Veteran in: “Slide In Road”. Great story for this old Veteran.

Vietnam Revisited
Revisado: 03-08-24
I’m a Marine 0311 Vietnam Combat Veteran. I was sent to the hospital in DaNang, there I was very compassionately treated by Army Nurses. This book brought tears to my eyes several times. Thank you to all the Nurses that served their time in the hell that was the American War in Vietnam.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Historia
In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself. Or did he? Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Who was the crooked little "color man" Vincent had claimed was stalking him across France? And why had the painter recently become deathly afraid of a certain shade of blue? These are just a few of the questions confronting Vincent's friends who vow to discover the truth of van Gogh's untimely death.

Story of our times
Revisado: 08-06-18
This story depicts how our society lets people slip thru the cracks. An elderly woman, swindled from her savings and a privileged young girl removed suddenly from parents who avoided their taxes become homeless and become entangled with each other.
It is a very real story of homelessness, how it happens and how it changes people. I loved this book and recommended it to my very sharp 94 year old mother.

Better and better
Revisado: 07-25-16
Tina Whittle's nooks get better with each installment. In this book, her portrayal of PTSD is spot on. Tina well captures the complexity of relationships in the Deep South and the flavors of individual families which animate the characters. There is no shying away from the difficult history and current affairs which makes the south so unique. Plus Tina writes rip roaring good adventures.

Historia
Forty years’ accumulation of art, antiques, and family photographs are more than just objects for Stanley Peke - they are proof of a life fully lived. A life he could have easily lost long ago. When a con man steals his houseful of possessions in a sophisticated moving-day scam, Peke wanders helplessly through his empty New England home, inevitably reminded of another helpless time: decades in Peke’s past, a cold and threadbare Stanislaw Shmuel Pecoskowitz eked out a desperate existence in the war-torn Polish countryside, subsisting on scraps, dodging Nazi soldiers.

Historia
Two girls survive a terrible flood in the Tasmanian bush and are rescued by a pair of Tasmanian tigers who raise them in the wild. Their story of survival is remarkable, as they adapt to the life of the tiger, learning to hunt and to communicate without the use of human language. When they are discovered and returned to civilization, neither can adapt to being fully human after their extraordinary experience. Totally believable, their story will both shock and captivate listeners as it explores the animal instincts that lie beneath our civilized veneer.

The narrators voice was rough, shark and screechy. Yet this is the exact voice the character calls for. The book moves right along and swooped me into the story.
