Historia
Bored and fed up with life, staring down a 50th birthday, Mike Tyler was looking for a change. Life had become routinized and unexciting. Maybe it was a mid-life crisis, or maybe just a yearning for one last big adventure. Mike decides to try hiking from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, just to see what happens. Mike convinces his wife, Margo, to join him. Together, they embark on a five-month hike full of anticipation. They hike through some of the most stunning and remote places in the country on a trail full of unique, offbeat characters.

Unadventurous
Revisado: 02-24-25
I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks about hiking and adventure. This book has nothing exciting whatsoever. In fact, the couple gets along so well that I question the authenticity of this memoir.

Historia
As North Korea's State Poet Laureate, Jang Jin-sung led a charmed life. With food provisions (even as the country suffered through its great famine), a travel pass, access to strictly censored information, and audiences with Kim Jong-il himself, his life in Pyongyang seemed safe and secure. But this privileged existence was about to be shattered. When a strictly forbidden magazine he lent to a friend goes missing, Jang Jin-sung must flee for his life.

Extremely well written
Revisado: 01-24-25
The book is really well written and the narrator is great. This should be required reading for the world. North Korean people are not the enemy, it’s the dictator. The people still struggle and try to escape to freedom to this day. Most giving their lives. For those living in a free country, we should be ever grateful for our freedom.

Revisado: 12-24-24
I’m an avid reader and this book is the worst book that I’ve ever read. The plot is so dull that it doesn’t keep me interested.

Good not great
Revisado: 12-10-24
I found this book to be good, but not great. It seemed to be missing something. Authenticity, I think. It’s certainly not a bad read, but could be better.

Historia
Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow, and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media, where she entertains and educates her millions of followers. But all these share the trait for which she is most famous: unabashedly and unapologetically being herself. This commitment to authenticity has never been more on display than in Down the Drain. With writing that is both eloquent and accessible, Fox recounts her turbulent path to cultural supremacy.

Sad soul…

I actually like her less than I initially thought. She doesn’t have a moral compass to say the least. What a depressing life that she made for herself.

Historia
Food has always been an integral part of Stanley Tucci’s life: from stracciatella soup served in the shadow of the Pantheon, to marinara sauce cooked between scene rehearsals and costume fittings, to home-made pizza eaten with his children before bedtime. Now, in What I Ate in One Year Tucci records twelve months of eating—in restaurants, kitchens, film sets, press junkets, at home and abroad, with friends, with family, with strangers, and occasionally just by himself.

Historia
When his mother, Barbara, turns seventy, Jedidiah Jenkins is reminded of a sobering truth: Our parents won’t live forever. For years, he and Barbara have talked about taking a trip together, just the two of them. They disagree about politics, about God, about the project of society—disagreements that hurt. But they love thrift stores, they love eating at diners, they love true crime, and they love each other. Jedidiah wants to step into Barbara’s world and get to know her in a way that occasional visits haven’t allowed.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 12-04-24
I thought that Jed was going to be walking across America with his mother. But, they drove the entire time. The cover made it sound like they would be walking. They didn’t pick up a backpack once. Oh well, interesting if you’re interested in LGBQ relationships with family members. I wasn’t really interested in that particular topic. I hope Jed writes more about future adventures rather than relationships.

I bought this just by chance and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it is a great listen. The story is extremely interesting and the narrators are perfect. I recommend this book especially if you have someone in your family that suffers from mental illness or if you do. It’s eye opening!

Worst book I’ve listened to
Revisado: 09-23-24
I didn’t like it because it seemed extremely cheesy and ridiculous or maybe it’s just a dated plot. Regardless, I don’t recommend it.
