Cartoonish to the point of absurdity
Revisado: 08-08-21
I'm a lifelong Constant Reader and it's been ages since I stepped into something that smelled this bad. Cartoonish characters, out of the blue rape plot than didn't gel with the first half of the book, and enough idiotic political speak to chase off even the most liberal hater of the Orange One, aka myself. Uncle Stevie, my dude, you shoulda left this one in a trunk.

Pretty basic fair

This story didn't do much for me. I can't explain it, just didn't care for it. Overall just really basic writing and story. Nothing new here.

Narrator is beyond annoying
Revisado: 09-11-20
Perhaps the bubbly suburban soccer mom way in which the narrator read this fits, but it was beyond annoying, almost to the point of unbearable. A decent story tho. Highly recommend you read this one instead of listening to it.

Cool story about the dangers of putting too much information online. Love that it was set in Lagos. Don't think I've read anything set in Nigeria before. I need to fix that. Any recommendations?

Narrator was slightly annoying
Revisado: 09-09-20
Great story but the narrator was slightly annoying. Can't put my finger on why though. The way she said certain words put my teeth on edge. Like chewing tinfoil.

Historia
Ever since Edgar Allan Poe looted a family's ignoble secret history for his classic story "The Fall of the House of Usher", living in the shadow of that sick dynasty has been an inescapable scourge for generations of Usher descendants. But not for horror novelist Rix Usher. Years ago he fled the isolated family estate of Usherland in the menacing North Carolina hills to pursue his writing career. He promised never to return. But his father's impending death has brought Rix back home to assume the role of Usher patriarch - and face his worst fears.

Easily the worst book McCammon...
Revisado: 06-29-19
Easily the worst book McCammon ever published. I hear he doesn't like his first three novels but they're gems by comparison. It took me nine months to finish this audiobook after rage quitting the paperback four times but I finally did it. Why did I bother? Because I'm a completionist, Shelly, that's why. This will go down as one of my life's greatest accomplishments. Stay away unless you're a glutton for overwritten books.
