Historia
When Freddy was 21 years old, his dad, a larger-than-life, successful TV producer, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain cancer. In vivid snapshots, Freddy recalls how his world is turned upside down—from the entertaining antics of a wine-gum tossing competition in a hospital ward, to the comi-tragedy of trying to decipher his father's muddled riddles as his speech disintegrates, to painful moments of regret and self-loathing as he squanders precious time.

Relatable and honest. A very loving portrait of illness that feels heartbreaking and real. Took a chance on this and glad I did.

I’d been meaning to listen but wow—great stories of showbiz, love, loss and the abuse she endured—and then fought to make life better for others. But mainly? Well written, but even better as an audiobook.

Great book, even better on audio — Half Pint 4 life!
Revisado: 05-20-22
First off, of course you want to hear her voice and of course she’s a terrific actor. I got the book in hardcover and the audio because I had the credits and suspected it’d be a great listen. The book is touching, funny and very real. But it’s better on audio, IMHO. Sometimes I found myself listening to parts I’d already read but didn’t realize it because the telling of the story was so compelling.
Liked the parts about aging and the fun stories about house/pandemic/animal stuff. It brought back a lot of memories of the pandemic and how we all coped. And so it’s an interesting time capsule.
I see now the only people giving bad reviews are fans of the orange guy. It’s a shame. But I’m glad she’s bold enough to speak her truth. She’s one of the few stars who has universal appeal to many ages and geographical areas.
Anyway the book is not super political, it’s just honest.

Fabulous showbiz memoir about a unique character
Revisado: 11-27-21
Really enjoyed the story of a guy who made brilliant moves and stupid ones in equal amounts. Totally enjoyed the ride from the 70’s to today dealing with indie exploitation movies and lots of his clever side hustles. Funny and very breezy telling. I’m not familiar with the movies but now I want to see some. His ability to produce so many properties is stunning.

Great biography slash memoir addressing weight

I enjoyed the history of the WW founder and loved the honest take on weight and body image by the author. Felt hyper real, and a good deep dive into the realities faced by the repeat dieter and the overweight.

I really appreciated the setting--well drawn portrait of Cape Cod. The characters were fun and the plot was just what you want in a cozy mystery. Great start to a series and I look forward to reading her next one!

Not sure if the narration or the book annoyed me more
Revisado: 07-22-20
Two narrators. One was like spending time with an aggressive influencer you can’t get away from. And the other did a great job but slipped accents all over the place. And so I’m not sure if it was the book that bugged me or the telling of it. The Latin lover character made me laugh out loud at times... and that was from both the writing and the telling. Kind of too predictable and omg not a sister story plus romance plus uninteresting side mystery. Ah well.

Interesting exploration of family and fatness
Revisado: 06-02-20
This was an engaging book. Not life-changing but very good. The author has some lines that really hit the mark. And then long stretches of stuff that did not. Didn’t find the characters believable, but sometimes her observations of relationships and life were wonderfully spot on. The narrator was good, but some characters seemed overplayed. Worth a listen.

What? You don’t know Adam Wade? Here’s your chance! Adam Wade’s personal-yet-universal stories and vulnerable delivery have made him one of the most popular storytellers and comedians in the country on "story slam" platforms like The Moth and Comedy Central’s Whiplash. This Audible Original, performed on stage in front of a live audience, combines Wade’s greatest hits stories with entirely new material.

Been a fan of his live storytelling for years. He’s legend. Downloading this was a no-brainer. Super great having a long form Wade experience and his transitional commentary is great too. This is the kind of offering that makes me appreciate paying for Audible every month, even though I seem to get credits faster than I can listen. Still, it’s all worth it when you get a bonus like this. At one point I nearly choked on a chick pea puff from laughing. Thanks Adam!

Debbie is real. Debbie is tough. You will enjoy spending time with her.
Revisado: 11-24-19
It was really nice spending time with a woman who has accomplished so much—and endured so much, and yet never presents as a victim. You will enjoy hearing this in her own voice which is that of a husky little girl who is all woman. She is a feminist icon. And although I wished she told more, you feel as if she would tell you if you knew her in real life. Loved her memories of NYC and her love of it still, even though NYC changes day by day. She still seems open and not cranky over change and this is the mark of a true artist.
