Historia
In this 45-minute listen, a former spy introduces two simple tools for thinking. The first describes how we think. The second helps us think ahead. They are the essential tools for getting things done. The tools are applied to an incident in a subway car in Europe where a spy faces a new enemy. Then, they're reapplied to Saddam Hussein's stockpiling (or not) of weapons of mass destruction.

Pointless & Rambling

I hate to give this bad of a review, but this one deserves it. Performance is fine, but book lacks any real depth or thought. The teaching example in the book is disconnected from the title, despite the author's efforts to convince us otherwise. I will not be buying anymore books from this author.

Historia
We all know Dorothea Lange's iconic photos - the Migrant Mother holding her child, the shoeless children of the Dust Bowl - but now renowned American historian Linda Gordon brings them to three-dimensional life in this groundbreaking exploration of Lange's transformation into a documentarist. Using Lange's life to anchor a moving social history of 20th-century America, Gordon masterfully re-creates bohemian San Francisco, the Depression, and the Japanese-American internment camps.

Many Books in One
Revisado: 10-13-15
Any additional comments?
This is a very long and detailed book that is more about the world during Dorthea Lange's time than it is about Lange. With this said, it is eye opening, and provides some incredible insight into American History. I felt as though I received three books for the price of one. I am grateful to the writer for all the research as well as the narrator for the reading. Books of this magnitude, are not easy to read. Yes, there are mistakes in the narration, but this was not easy ground to cover. To sum everything up, if you like to hear the untold story of America's history during the depression as told through a photographer's life don't hesitate read this book.

Well Written and Well Thought Out
Revisado: 05-06-15
Would you listen to 10% Happier again? Why?
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the book. Dan gives us a concrete, "do as I do" example of how to tame those negative thoughts while improving your edge. I did not think this was possible as every time I tame those voices I always loose my edge. I then have to go back and embrace those insecurities to keep my career going. Not a fun place to be. Dan, thanks for providing a path out.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Loved the auto-biography element. Love the stories about the news room!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It took about a week off and on. I will listen many more times as I did not catch all the finer points.
Any additional comments?
One of the best self help books I have ever read. It is not preachy and offers very practical wisdom. Also, appreciated the tongue in check humor. Provided several great laughs.

Historia
One of the most popular Fortune articles in many years was a cover story called "What It Takes to Be Great." Geoff Colvin offered new evidence that top performers in any field - from Tiger Woods and Winston Churchill to Warren Buffett and Jack Welch - are not determined by their inborn talents. Greatness doesn't come from DNA but from practice and perseverance honed over decades.

Just Another Reason to Feel Bad About Yourself
Revisado: 01-09-12
What would have made Talent Is Overrated better?
The author ignores countless studies that have been done on talent. The studies clearly indicate that there is a strong genetic bias towards being better at some things than others. For someone who is discussing the merits of hard work, I think he should have done a better job on his home work. Furthermore, to say talent has a minimal role, if any, in our development, simply ignores the diversity that makes us all unique. Does the author have children? Does he not see the vast differences between them? Does he not see the talents that exists within each child? The author's premise that all it takes is hard work is just another excuse for people to feel bad about themselves. For example, there is an implied if you play golf for 20 years, you can be Tiger. My bother in law has played golf for 30 years and has done so with great vigor. Although he has a great handicap, he is no Tiger. Again this is an area with lots of scientific studies, that the author has chose to ignore. Also, has the author taken into account the effects on one's personal life, when a goal is pursued at the expense of all others? Tiger and Michael Jackson are two excellent examples. Neither had an adolescence/childhood. Look how they turned out. The reality is that becoming a self-actualize, productive member of society is probably the greatest definition of success. Good luck to all.
