Historia
After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move. Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals.

The Cosmere gets bigger with every story!
Revisado: 11-19-22
Okay, not my favorite of the Storm Light Saga. Still a solid read. the characters and world building is just as solid as Sanderson's other work but this one was so focused on the reality of the characters mental health it got a bit dark. otherwise awesome action and there were some surprises.

Historia
Dalinar Kholin's Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost. The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, which now sweeps the world with destruction and in its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that the newly kindled anger of the parshmen may be wholly justified.

Epic
Revisado: 09-27-22
Great story. Sanderson is best in fantasy field in his character development. His characters drive the story this leads to interesting sometimes unexpected turns in a genre full of tropes this is refreshing. The narration is excellent and perfect for the story. The Cosmere continues to grow and that excites me but this novel did stretch a bit longer than necessary. Mayne 10-12 chapters came after the resolution of the major conflict. Brandon, somethings can happen off page. Still an awesome book and Sanderson has become one of my favorite living authors.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Just the right novel for right now!
Revisado: 03-23-22
The above is a quote from the author in his Author's note at the end of the story and indeed sums up how I feel about this novel. Generally, I think Scalzi can get a little goofy in his less serious works but, and this is a HUGE but, he is an extraordinary talent. His world building is on-point, his characters are multidimensional and his stories flow cleanly and consistently with the world he has created. This book, written just as the world is recovering from the abject madness that was the dystopia of the last several years, feels right. It does not take itself to seriously and it is a fun read. As always Wil Wheaton does a great job with Scalzi's words. He reads this book with the tone of someone who is a co-conspirator on the joke. The tone is light, the humor not always on point, and the pop culture references will be lost on anyone who is not in their Forties. However, given how much the world has been though lately this book might just be the right book for right now! Assuming of course 2022 does not actually see the opening of portals to Kaiju Earth.

Solid outing in a compelling world
Revisado: 03-16-22
Solid outing in a compelling, if somewhat derivative world. The narrator is excellent and many of the ideas fun enough. This book the third in the series is unfortunately not the best of the trilogy but provided an opportunity for some of the supporting characters to be fleshed out a bit more. All in all a fun listen.

Quirky and irreverent
Revisado: 08-18-21
Quirky and irreverent. Another example of the sequel is better. I laughed, I cried. The characters were likeable and compelling. The world building was spot on. While the language and violence might be problematic to some, it is absolutely necessary to the story. This book is genuinely hilarious and poignant at the same time. The narrator's accent takes a second to get used to (at least to my American ears), but no one else could have done justice to the multicultural, multi-ethnic characters. I eagerly await the next installment.

Like all great metropolises before it, when a city gets big enough, old enough, it must be born; but there are ancient enemies who cannot tolerate new life. Thus New York will live or die by the efforts of a reluctant midwife...and how well he can learn to sing the city's mighty song.

Revisado: 07-08-21
This is essentially the first chapter of The City We Became. Its performed well and has a lot of action. If you already read The City We Became, you can probably skip this as there is very little new. However, if a trilogy of books about anthropomorphic urban sprawls and ancient horrors sounds a little daunting start here. Get your feet wet. Get swept up in the lyrical quality of Jemisin's narrative and 3 dimensional diverse characters.. Jemisin is one of the greatest authors of her generation. I recommend. The narrator is just a bad ass.

It's not every afternoon that an enigmatic, comely blonde named Stilton (like the cheese) walks into the scruffy gin joint where Sammy "Two Toes" Tiffin tends bar. It's love at first sight, but before Sammy can make his move, an air force general named Remy arrives with some urgent business. 'Cause when you need something done, Sammy is the guy to go to; he's got the connections on the street.

It is what it is, but it's fun.
Revisado: 03-16-21
Okay, this is NOT a dark and gritty crime story featuring hard boiled gumshoes. That said, it is a romp through post-war San Francisco that features some very diverse, very likable characters. Like true Noir, this book follows a working stiff whose life is changed forever by knock-out blond, and while the story is full of unsavory characters, murder, and an inciteful black momba named Petey, the action leans more towards the fantastical than the dangerous. A fun read to be sure even if some of the Noir-style metaphors often are cringe worthy. I recommend this for someone looking for something a little different.

Historia
Mary Robinette Kowal continues the grand sweep of alternate history begun in The Calculating Stars. The Fated Sky looks forward to 1961, when mankind is well established on the moon and looking forward to its next step: journeying to, and eventually colonizing, Mars. Of course the noted Lady Astronaut Elma York would like to go, but there’s a lot riding on whoever the International Aerospace Coalition decides to send on this historic - but potentially very dangerous - mission. Could Elma really leave behind her husband and the chance to start a family to spend several years traveling to Mars?

A compelling character driven story set in an alternate history. While this is definitely SciFi it deals with issues of race and climate change in realistic and interesting ways. I highly recommend this series.
