Historia
Leor Zmigrod reveals the deep connection between political beliefs and the biology of the brain. Drawing on her own pioneering research, she uncovers the complex interplay between biology and environment that predisposes some individuals to rigid ways of thinking, and explains how ideologies take hold of our brains, fundamentally changing the way we think, act and interact with others.

interesting historical survey
Revisado: 04-03-25
interesting historical survey marred by a tendency to bury the point in the story. aside from the evidence that much ideological orientation is hardwired- in the sense that some people are more adaptable to change than others- I'm not sure I took anything away from this book

mathematicians delight in the world seen through patterns that devolve to math, which is both true and not particularly interesting, at least to me

Historia
In 1855, with the United States at odds over slavery, the lawyer Abraham Lincoln wrote a note to his best friend, the son of a Kentucky slaveowner. Lincoln rebuked his friend for failing to oppose slavery. But he added: “If for this you and I must differ, differ we must,” and said they would be friends forever. Throughout his life and political career, Lincoln often agreed to disagree.

Historia
Wired called Dr. Fei-Fei Li “one of a tiny group of scientists—a group perhaps small enough to fit around a kitchen table—who are responsible for AI’s recent remarkable advances.” Known to the world as the creator of ImageNet, a key catalyst of modern artificial intelligence, Dr. Li has spent more than two decades at the forefront of the field. But her career in science was improbable from the start. The Worlds I See is the moving memoir of a scientist coming of age as an immigrant in America who finds her calling at the forefront of the AI revolution.

A story of humanism and science
Revisado: 04-24-24
I had a little trouble getting into this, possibly because my knowledge of physics is non-existent. once she hit the 2010s and later, though, it became a really compelling, impassioned, humanistic, and optimistic survey of artificial intelligence in the last 15 years. highly recommend

Historia
In The MAGA Diaries, she tells not only her story of loving and leaving the conservative movement but the history of the right wing, painting a shocking picture of how they recruit, train, and indoctrinate generations of young people and shape them into the influential leaders and the supporting cast of tomorrow’s Republican party. They are ruthless in building robust networks of power, even if it means demolishing entire civic institutions, from women’s rights to fair elections—and staging a coup when it doesn’t work out.

insights from a different point of view
Revisado: 03-05-24
Tina Nguyen is one of the few writers/ pundits to have moved from the right to the center in her writing career. she admits that it may be the height of hubris to write a memoir in one's early 30s, but the inside she provides more than justify the exercise. A great review of the evolution of journalism, and celebrity over the past 10 years

Historia
By the time she became US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch had seen her share of corruption, instability, and tragedy in developing countries. But it came as a shock when, in early 2019, she was recalled from her post after a smear campaign by President Trump’s personal attorney and his associates—men operating outside of normal governmental channels, and apparently motivated by personal gain. Her courageous participation in the subsequent impeachment inquiry earned Yovanovitch the nation’s respect, and her dignified response to the president’s attacks won our hearts.
