Historia
When the Twin Towers fell on 9/11, Welles Crowther's parents had no idea what happened to him. In the unbearable days that followed, they came to accept that he would never come home. But the mystery of his final hours persisted. Eight months after the attacks, however, Welles' mother read a news account from several survivors, who said they and others had been led to safety by a stranger carrying a woman on his back down nearly 20 flights of stairs.

Historia
From the winter of 2006 through the spring of 2007, 250 marines from Echo Company, Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, fought daily in the dangerous, dense city streets of Ramadi, Iraq, during the Multi-National Forces Surge ordered by President George W. Bush. The marines' mission: to kill or capture anti-Iraqi forces. Their experience: like being in hell. Now Major Scott A. Huesing, the commander who led Echo Company through Ramadi, takes listeners back to the streets of Ramadi in a visceral, gripping portrayal of modern urban combat.

Positively Unique
Revisado: 12-01-22
This book captures all human sides of conflict in a way that very few books have been able to do. Read this book in order to understand the human element related to combat and the aftermath. If I could give it more stars, I would. Well done, Marine!

Historia
When Donovan Campbell's platoon deployed to Ramadi in the spring of 2004, they believed they'd be spending most of their time building schools, training police, and making friends with the citizens. But shortly after arriving, when Campbell awoke to the chilling cry of "Jihad, Jihad, Jihad!" echoing from minaret to minaret across the city, he knew they had an altogether different situation on their hands.

An authentic read
Revisado: 07-19-22
Many of these books are written in a machismo manner. The author does a great job of showing the human side of conflict. The humility with which he delivers his story is refreshing.

Historia
Ambushed in Afghanistan and betrayed by their own leaders, these elite Marines fought for their lives again, back home. A cross between A Few Good Men and American Sniper, this is the true story of an elite Marine special operations unit bombed by an IED and shot at during an Afghanistan ambush. The Marine Commandos were falsely accused of gunning down innocent Afghan civilians following the ambush. The unit’s leader, Major Fred Galvin, was summarily relieved of duty, and his unit was booted from the combat zone.

Two sides to every story
Revisado: 07-01-22
From every tragedy there are great lessons to be extracted. One from this book is that there are still men like Fred Galvin who are willing to stand on principle and face down a system for their day in court. The second is a reminder that there are two sides to every story. This book highlights how the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” is taking its historical place alongside the steamboat and the covered wagon.
If there are opposing facts to what’s presented in this book, I’d love to know them. Otherwise, these men are due an apology in the very least.

Historia
Investigative journalist Matthew Cole tells the story of the most lauded unit, SEAL Team 6, revealing a troubling pattern of war crimes and the deep moral rot beneath authorized narratives. From their origins in World War II, the SEALs have trained to be specialized killers with short missions. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan became the endless War on Terror, their violence spiraled out of control. Code Over Country details the high-level decisions that unleashed the SEALs’ carnage and the coverups that prevented their crimes from coming to light.

Fair
Revisado: 06-12-22
The book presented what came across as an objective “opinion of the truth” without trying to take a side or sway the reader. It gave clear evidence of challenges to be met within the community, without damning the community.
