Heartbreaking
Revisado: 12-29-23
It's a heartbreaking story, especially when listening to this after Mathew's passing at a relatively young age. The tragedy lies in the fact that some medical professionals resort to prescribing psychiatric drugs to infants to calm them down. Mathew appeared to have a susceptibility to addiction, which extended to various substances such as hard drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. While others may enjoy alcohol recreationally, it became an overpowering force in his life, rendering him unable to function without it. His frequent trips to the emergency room and treatment centers made his life a living hell.
Mathew expressed his desire to trade his entire fortune for the mental well-being of someone poor. However, he may not have realized that even individuals without significant wealth can fall prey to the clutches of addiction, as evidenced by the presence of drug addiction in the skid rows not far from his mansion. Drugs can inflict harm on anyone they touch, and both doctors and pharmaceutical companies must exercise extreme caution, as many substance addictions start with the prescription drugs they provide, leading to the devastating deterioration of lives.

Unbelievable Story
Revisado: 12-29-23
It's unbelievable. The story of how an adult woman's autonomy was completely stripped away by a man, all due to a few seemingly trivial reasons: 1. She chose to shave her head. 2. She reacted to invasive paparazzi in a less than polite manner. 3. She sought refuge with her children due to depression. Moreover, the possibility that her use of prescription medication, not even illicit drugs, played a role in her situation raises further questions.
The decision to shave her head was a personal choice, entirely within her prerogative. What's wrong with someone exercising their autonomy in this manner? As for the paparazzi, have any measures been taken against these overly aggressive individuals who intrude on her privacy and safety?
Her retreat to the bathroom with her children can be seen as a manifestation of postpartum depression, a condition that deserves empathy and professional help. While she may require treatment and support for her mental health, it's unjust to wrest away her control over her assets and her fundamental right to make decisions about her life, including her dietary choices. Simultaneously, she was still expected to generate significant income for her family—this is deeply troubling.
Had she not fought for her freedom with the support of her fans, she might still be ensnared in this situation. This raises critical questions about the oversight of conservatorships. How can a fully capable adult woman, who had been working tirelessly, cannot govern her own life? It feels akin to modern-day slavery, which can be defined as being compelled to obey the dictates of others.
This narrative is undeniably a tragic one, but it is also characterized by its unbelievable and abhorrent aspects, showcasing the absurdity and cruelty that robbed a woman of the best years of her life.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

A very touching story
Revisado: 06-03-23
It is reasonable for Harry to share his side of the story through his book. He did not dig any dirt on others if the stories were unrelated to himself. The royal family should have anticipated that such a book could be written after they cut off Harry and his wife and abruptly ended their financial support.
Harry's security concerns were a direct consequence of his former royal status, and it was only fair for the Palace to assist him during the transitional period. Withdrawing financial support for his security exposed him and his family to potential dangers. We should remember the tragic fate of his mother, who lost her life while being chased by aggressive paparazzi. It is heartbreaking to see that Harry, after losing his mother, felt abandoned by his family and faced similar threats. It's hard to believe the accusations of him lying in the book since we had been showered with racist comments and fabricated stories against Megan during the time when she was married into the Royal family. Understandably, she could not thrive in such a hostile environment. I applaud Harry for standing up for his wife,
I also appreciate Harry's commitment to donating a significant portion of the book's proceeds to charitable causes. Best wishes to his family!

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Childish, cliched, predictable, and boring
Revisado: 01-29-23
The story was captivating at the start but lost its momentum when the main character reached the underground. The subsequent plots were cliched and prolonged. The sundial aspect was a highlight, but other elements were overly predictable and heavy-handed. I would have preferred if the underground portion had been shorter and the interactions with the real world had been more fully developed. Unfortunately, the story came to an unsatisfying close after the high school boy somehow became a blonde prince and saved the other world. Huge bats, cockroaches, and rats - oh well, just not scary at all.

Too weak, too cheesy
Revisado: 11-21-22
Yes, I understand the importance of DV awareness. It's just the story supporting this topic is too weak and too cheesy.
Spoiler Alert:
A playboy suddenly fell in love with a random girl. All they did were having all kinds of sex, and then their love (or lust?) became deeper and deeper. Just couldn't tell where the attraction came from other than the male-dominating/controlling sex. After the first DV incident, the girl(Lily) became so angry, but then somehow fell in love again because Ryle apologized and then they had more sex. Then they quickly got married - shouldn't Lily become wary about marriage and want to observe more since she constantly compared Ryle with her violent father? Just didn't get why Lily wanted to get married so soon other than to fit the needs of the storyline.
Also, it's too cheesy for Lily to get an easy friendship from a rich girl, to get a booming flower business without much marketing effort or a viral story, and of course to have a rich ex-BF and new BF. Ryle was able to buy a luxury apartment for them "because he's a neurosurgeon." Come on, he was a resident at that time. Probably all he had was student debt.
Sure there should be zero tolerance for DV regardless of any situation. However, it's just uncomfortable to read that Lily would put the heart magnet that her ex-BF gave to him on the fridge and then lied about it. She then went to her ex-BF for refuge after the second DV because Ryle was so angry about her relationship with her ex-BF. In the end, after her divorce, she met her ex-BF, and sure the next book will be about her happy life with her ex-BF. The love between her ex-BF and her was very strong throughout the story, but the love between Ryle and her was so weak and was simply forced by the author. Ryle was the aggressor, and it was great that finally Lily decided to leave him. But on the other hand, he was also a victim. He could be just happily ever after remaining a playboy, but then the author forced him to fall in love with Lily, and then he lost her, lost his luxury apartment, his dream job in Mayo, and then his daughter. And sure the next book will make him keep loving Lily and be tortured by it. Yeah, very believable.

Good listen, but forced differences.
Revisado: 07-30-22
It's very common nowadays that doctors marry to someone who earns much less money. The class difference between a doctor and a mayor of a small town is greatly exaggerated in the book - almost like a story that happened a hundred years ago. Why is it a big threat that a retired father would disown her? She will be a chief herself, and own tons of wealth, so don't really count on inheritance. Nowadays, aren't retired parents begging their children to visit them isntead? She can attend all kinds of fancy parties based on her own social status, not her parents', so what's the problem? If she's raised up with this kind of mentality from her family, what about the modem education in K-12 schools and elite colleges?
Just feel that the class difference is too forced, and the guy is too perfect.

Too difficult to understand
Revisado: 02-17-22
Too many technical details, and are very hard to understand. In the end, I don't know what all this teaching is about.
For the narrator, it's odd to listen to a robotic female voice representing Dalai Lama.

The story broke my heart
Revisado: 12-22-21
This is such a sad story. In the beginning, it sounds sweet and uplifting, but then the twist! I googled the twist just to make sure, and the words made me cry. The profound sadness from the twist of his loss just broke my heart. The supposed to be the uplifting end just cannot pull me out of the deep sorrow.
Just wish all the lonely people get similar support from the community, especially during the lonely time of social distance.
