Historia
After an explosive night of passion during a scenting ceremony, Karla Alves is sure she was just a one night stand for the man she'd been crushing on for years. She teased him and pleased him, and Nate hasn't been around since. Her fear of becoming clingy kept her from risking her heart and asking for more than a few hours of skin sin. Nathan Wolfe marked Karla. His mate. Deeply involved in pack politics, Nate has had to stay away.

No plot; Amateur narration
Revisado: 11-11-22
This was a struggle to finish even though, at 5 hours long, it is easily the shortest book I have purchased. There is essentially no plot line to speak of, the relationship drama if we can call it that is contrived, and the narrator's voices all sound the same.

Feels like time wasted.
Revisado: 01-05-21
Unfortunately I don't feel able to give too much of a critique regarding the plot, as there wasn't really much of one to speak of. Both the hero and the heroine had so little depth to them. They were so shallow that I really couldn't comprehend how they could have a relationship with each other, when they barely existed themselves. It would seem that the author didn't really intend for them to develop a relationship beyond a little bit of witty banter and occasional flirtatious glances. That's perfectly fine, if that's the sort of relationship you're looking for, but that's not the way it was sold. The side characters seem to have more going for them than the main characters, but that's not saying much. In general the book seemed to float around not exactly knowing where it was heading. The last paragraph seems to imply the potential for a love triangle, but I really hope I'm wrong there, as there was already no love to speak of. It would be incredibly contrived! It's apparent that this was simply seen as a setup device for future books, but the danger in doing that is when you forget to make this book a story in and of itself. The author has fallen into this trap. The narrator's performance didn't do anything to make up for the weak story, in fact probably did more harm than good. The male voices especially either came across like whiny teenagers, or ornery grandmas. It was genuinely laughable! Unfortunately, I'm not sure that's what the narrator was really going for. The heroine was largely naíve, and once people did give her a bit of information so that she would not be the least knowledgeable person in the room, she took none of it at face value and still decided to do anything and everything to dig herself into deeper holes. It's as if Ollie herself didn't want me to enjoy this story. Utter self sabotage.

Had Potential, but Ultimately Disappointing
Revisado: 12-08-20
I'll start by saying that this book did have potential. Native American characters and shapeshifters and magic, could have been a very interesting and engaging combination. Unfortunately, this book is murdered by the execution of it all. Despite interesting subjects, it managed to be very dry, making it a real slog. The romance comes out of NOWHERE. Twilight's love story gets a bum rap, but Edward and Bella had far more chemistry and emotional development than Maya and David. There was far too much "and then Jen said, then Maya said, then Jen said". It comes across as being very novice, and that's before getting into the fact that the heroine was absolutely too stupid to live. The fact that she survived until the end of this book, is an insult to intelligent readers. Her reactions were so incredibly plastic as to be unbelievable. Then the story ends without actually having told you much of a story at all. It's all just a haphazard setup for future books. Furthermore, even if the story had been expertly written and engaging, the narrator would have made you equate it to watching paint dry. She used very strange inflection throughout, often emphasizing entirely the wrong part of a word or sentence. None of her male voices were convincing. Her mispronunciation of even basic words was enough to make you want to rip your hair out. Somehow, despite the multiple deaths and mysteries and emotional upheaval and "romance" involved in this story, she managed to be almost entirely monotone, except when she was doing a weird cranky baby doll voice for Jen when talking to Maya. Frankly, the adults in a Charlie Brown episode could have done just as well, and I hear they work cheap.

Historia
Wynona Bennett, owner of The Mating Game, thinks everyone should find true love, so it goes against her instincts to arrange a mating of convenience. It's even worse when it's for a spoiled socialite with a shopping list where her soul should be. But when powerful people resort to blackmail, she either has to make semi-feral Zane Shepherd into an eligible match, or find herself behind bars. It's going to take a miracle. He's bad-mannered, bad-tempered...and bad for Wynona's bruised, once-bitten-twice-shy-heart. But Zane isn't all he seems.

Narration is practically a deal-breaker
Revisado: 09-24-20
The narration was awful. The female voices were laughably bad, and the male voices were even worse. The accents were like a fork to the ear. None of this was helped by the painfully awkward dialogue.

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Decent narration, so-so storyline.
Revisado: 12-10-19
It's clear that the author's goal is to just feed you tidbits of a story, in order to keep you buying more books, but I tend to at least expect a relatively full tale within each tidbit. This one had so many holes. Several aspects of real life were just ignored, in favor of hurrying to shoehorn that romance in. It feels like this should just be a few chapters out of a real book. It's fine as a part of Audible Escape, but I'd have been pissed to waste a credit.
*SPOILERS* Seriously, what happened with her job, home, coworkers, friends? She had a life before they met. The children were legally hers. Government officials don't just let random millionaires claim "dibs" on people's children because they're injured!

Okay story. Terrible narration.
Revisado: 12-05-19
This was my first time experiencing T.S. Joyce's work, and likely my last. The story itself was okay, certainly nothing special that I'll even think about after submitting this review. The narration, however, was laughably bad. Mackenzie Harte should never ever EVER do Male voices. They were bad enough that I genuinely laughed out loud during parts that were supposed to be emotional or intense. Completely ruined the vibe. I'll be avoiding her work like the plague.

Hous of your life you won't get back
Revisado: 07-20-19
This was a pretty sad excuse for a story. It jumped all over the place, and never fully explained anything. That last ditch effort to tie all of the storylines together only made it more apparent how dry the story was to begin with. The narrator's performance was just as mediocre as the writing. Her accents were awful, and her attempt at Male voices was so bad as to be comical in some parts. I don't go into these types of stories expecting life-changing philosophy or anything. It's fluff reading, pure and simple, but this book couldn't even deliver on THAT. Nothing truly feels resolved. I'm kind of upset about the time I invested, waiting for it to get to the "good part". That part really never came. Cassie Alexander and Tai Sammons are both on my "no-go" list now.

My favorite Audiobook so far!
Revisado: 11-20-18
I only own 50 titles so far, but this is definitely my favorite of my romances. I love a hero who's super sweet and affectionate, in addition to being brutally strong. He was a beautiful balance to the strong-willed, compassionate heroine. Major kudos to Dianne Duval for writing a heroine who managed to convey incredible strength, without resorting to the standard foul-mouthed, beer chugging, "I'm a total bada**, I hate dresses, and can only be friends with dudes" template that so many of her fellow authors fall back on. Femininity is not the antithesis of strength, and I appreciate her all the more for realizing that.
Narrator Kirsten Potter was great, as usual! It's actually thanks to her that I found this book. I enjoy her reading so much, I was scrolling through a list of her works when this caught my eye.
