Fifty percent entertainment, fifty percent academic. It is a rare balance never before acheived with such perfection. You will not finish this with an expert view of economics but you will certainly enjoy the ride.

Historia
Alexis de Tocqueville's renowned analysis of American democracy still has relevance today. In 1831 de Tocqueville was sent to America by the French government to study the U.S. penal system, but his real aim was to observe a democratic republic firsthand to see if such an entity could function with dignity and humanity. His travels, which took him to the cities of the Northeast, to the frontier and the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi and through the South, showed him a great deal about the United States. In 1834, he wrote Democracy in America, in which he examines the advantages and pitfalls of democracy, the conditions and conflicts among the races, and the movements that grip the country.

Important book, poor recording
Revisado: 07-23-06
This title requires a complete re-work of the audio. For the price of the audiobook it is a necessity that they do so. The book itself is of paramount importance and should be read by everyone before leaving high school. This is a foundation document that should be preserved with more respect.

Historia
By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of How to Recover.

Despite the controversy...
Revisado: 07-23-06
I dislike works of fiction and would not have purchased this had I known this was primarily fiction but enjoyed the book anyway. The events in this book are not far-fetched to anyone who has survived addiction. Though this title has been battered by every media outlet it still has some merit.
The narrration is very good and the story is gritty.

Solid narration, solid material
Revisado: 07-23-06
A very interesting audiobook presented in a very professional manner. This was a real pleasure to listen two. The original text is well-crafted and narrated with the same care. If you have no training or academic background in math you can still get a great deal out of this. I've scored, and continued to score, poorly in math classes but loved this recording.

Historia
A million-copy seller, Henry Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson is a classic economic primer. But it is also much more, having become a fundamental influence on modern “libertarian” economics of the type espoused by Ron Paul and others. Called by H. L. Mencken “one of the few economists in history who could really write,” Henry Hazlitt achieved lasting fame for this brilliant but concise work.

Important info, bad narration
Revisado: 07-23-06
My mistake was not listening to a sample of the narration before purchasing. The dryness that the material is delivered overshadows the quality of the content. Please encourage the publisher to perform a do-over.

Art mixed with science
Revisado: 07-23-06
This is a well-narrated piece of pop-science. Hard core science junkies may want to steer clear since the robust storytelling is this audiobooks strong point. If you are not adept at astronomy but want a gentle and entertaining introduction this is the audiobook for you. An enjoyable and breezy experience for those not wanting to get mired in scientific jargon.

Bad audio, good material
Revisado: 07-23-06
The first hour is inexcusably poor and any $39 audio editing program could fix it. What you lose in that hour is the first layer of the foundation of physics that Feynman lays down. What you get after that first hour is pure magic. Hearing the actual voice of Feynman confirms what many of his peers said about him. His vigor, humor, and genius shine throughout.

Great subject, great narration.
Revisado: 07-23-06
Feynman is a cultural phenom and intellectual giant. This audiobook takes a look inside one of the greatest minds of modern times. The narration is delivered in a strong performance with expert care given to every nuance. Only the exasperating detail of the NASA debacle keeps this from being a five out of five. Too much time was dedicated to the disaster.
