Slow novel, annoying accents

I found this book to be ploddingly slow, with too many new characters being introduced at length who then don't have much of a role in the plot.The narrator puts on a fake "old country" accent that was like nails on a chalkboard. It was not at all enjoyable.

Dull listing of things women did/owned

Perhaps if there was a bit more structure, this could be interesting. As it is. this is just a long, rambling list of anecdotal tidbits about women strung together. Maybe reading it would be better than listening to it, I couldn't finish it and I'm a history buff.

Mitchell's dry wit and thorough knowledge make history very entertaining. It's a must for history buffs and those that are even mildly interested in the royals.

Insultingly dumb, annoying narrator

I couldn't finish this. It's a romance novel that skewers typical romance novels and then becomes the very tropes it claims to hate. It doesn't help that the narrator speaks in an irritating growl for all the men's parts and a high pitched squeal for the sister's role. I have a lot better things to do with my time then read this slow moving junk.

I love Mary Beard, but this is a rambling collection of factoids that are presented out of historic order. It is more of a dry scholarly paper for coin nerds, not a book.
