An anthology of over 50 classic children's poems, read by some of our finest actors. Full of fun, excitement, and magic, the poems in this collection are guaranteed to spark the imagination and open up a world of wonder. Favourites from authors such as Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, and Robert Louis Stevenson are all here, as well as less familiar but nonetheless hugely entertaining poems such as" The Camel's Complaint"and "The Elephant, or The Force of Habit".

PERFECT, NON-TWADDLE, QUALITY POEMS!
- De Atara en 04-18-12
Scarcely sentimental, wildly merrimental
Revisado: 08-09-21
Largely Lear and Carroll and Goose, I’ve never heard these poems read so well, and four excellent narrators mean it’s never boring.

Historia
In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Drags a bit in the first half. Stick with it! It gets better and better, and makes an important case.

Historia
While most of us might take dictionaries for granted, the process of writing them is in fact as lively and dynamic as language itself. With sharp wit and irreverence, Kory Stamper cracks open the complex, obsessive world of lexicography - from the agonizing decisions about what and how to define to the knotty questions of usage in an ever-changing language.

Great insider information
Revisado: 04-22-17
What did you love best about Word by Word?
I got an insider's view of how Merriam-Webster's Dictionary is "built." It was fascinating.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
It was read by the author, and she was by turns compelling, funny, awkward, and annoying. Sort of like most of the people in my Ph.D. program.
What does Kory Stamper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She has a good instinct for comedy, plus experience in the trenches. She is very good at explaining obscure points and giving funny examples. Lots of naughty words, too, if you like that.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It's not that kind of book. I enjoyed hearing about the sorts of complaints the editors receive from the public. And the book reinforced my belief that people are really, really interested in words.

Historia
Read by a cast of award-winning narrators, this collection contains some of the most timeless and enchanting folk and fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm. The Brothers Grimm collected the original fairy tales that Americans are most familiar with today. Lyrically translated and beautifully narrated by an all-star cast, these 21 tales are selected from The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales and presented just as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm originally set them down: bold, primal, just frightening enough, and endlessly engaging.

Interesting, but short and uneven
Revisado: 06-29-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales to be better than the print version?
The very last reading, by Robin Miles, of "Hansel and Gretel" was masterful. Hearing it was like discovering the tale for the first time. Overall, though, the audiobook did not adequately represent the Grimms' Fairy Tales. It seemed like a sampler of star narrators, only a few of whom really did the stories justice.
Any additional comments?
This is billed as a "full cast" recording. A different narrator reads each tale, but there is no dramatization. It is also billed as "unabridged," which it is certainly not. It contains a couple of dozen tales, some well-known, some lesser known. A more satisfying, unabridged version (of Grimms' lesser-known first edition) is the audiobook of Jack Zipes' THE ORIGINAL FAIRY TALES OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM. The readings are unexpectedly good, and there are so many tales!

What would have made The Geography of Genius better?
No, I don't want to hear about every place you went and everyone you met and every thought that passed through your mind as you explored your topic.

More like a beginning college writing course. Author's made up examples of good writing are pedestrian at best. Deceptive 'great course' marketing in my opinion.
