Andy Serkis is amazing!
Revisado: 02-18-22
I have listened to and read the LOTR trilogy many times, but Andy Serkis really makes it come alive. I didn't see a need for a new narration of my favorite trilogy, but I'm certainly glad I gave it a try!

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Another hit for Andy Weir
Revisado: 11-23-21
Excellent narrator, compelling story, enjoyed every minute. I admit I let the details of the science and math float past me without working very hard to understand them, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the book.

Unfinished
Revisado: 03-20-21
I didn't care for the storyline of the father and son, but I was very interested in what happened to the dog. The story ends abruptly and, spoiler alert, we have no idea what happened to the dog. I am not the kind of reader who wants to make up my own ending. I sometimes make up an alternate ending but I don't like it when a story just stops without resolving anything. This felt more like a chapter than a story.

Historia
Can literature change our real world society? At its foundation, utopian and dystopian fiction asks a few seemingly simple questions aimed at doing just that. Who are we as a society? Who do we want to be? Who are we afraid we might become? When these questions are framed in the speculative versions of Heaven and Hell on earth, you won't find easy answers, but you will find tremendously insightful and often entertaining perspectives.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

A wonderful book!
Revisado: 04-30-20
I can't believe I left this on my Wish List for so long! I don't really watch TV very much, so I have never seen Trevor Noah but he was the perfect person to narrate his own book. He speaks all the languages and does all the accents that make you feel like you are part of the story. I usually stay away from memoirs or anything like memoirs, because they are usually so grim but somehow, in spite of the grim nature of some of the stories in this book, they are told with humor that makes the book enjoyable. I also learned more about South Africa and apartheid than I have ever learned before.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Too much sex!
Revisado: 03-11-16
What made the experience of listening to Take Me Home the most enjoyable?
I didn't finish this book. I kept trying to skip through the explicit sex scenes because I was interested in the plot, but it was difficult to do this without missing parts of the story, so I gave up.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I'm not sure. If the author thinks the sex scenes are important to moving the plot along, then that's her business, and I guess some readers/listeners are interested in that. It's just not for me.
What does Shannon McManus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She did a fine job; I just couldn't hang in there.
Any additional comments?
Please don't recommend any more books for me by this author. She gets great reviews, so I'm sure she has lots of fans; it just isn't the kind of book I enjoy listening to.
