Historia
There is a great deal that goes into making a video blog. Lizzie Bennet should know, having become a YouTube sensation over the course of her year-long video diary project. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries chronicled Lizzie’s life as a twenty-four-year-old grad student, struggling under a mountain of student loans and living at home with her two sisters - beautiful Jane and reckless Lydia. What may have started as her grad student thesis grew into so much more, as the videos came to inform and reflect her life and that of her sisters.

Witty Modernization of a Classic
Revisado: 02-28-20
I greatly enjoyed this audio book. Its modernization of Pride and Prejudice is very clever and believable while keeping close to the original plot. While listening to the audio book, I usually had a smile on my face enjoying the story and often laughed out load. The narrator, Ashley Clements, was terrific and was able to portray all of the characters in ways that made each a distinct personality while being recognizable from the Jane Austen classic. The idea of having a complementary web video of the same name on YouTube greatly enhanced the experience (I do not know which came first, the book or the video). Ms. Clements played Lizzie Bennet in the web video and her dual roles linked each short web video and its corresponding explanatory diary chapter in a way that provided greater depth, continuity, and understanding to both. I highly recommend this audio book.

Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy winner Emma Thompson lends her immense talent and experienced voice to Henry James' Gothic ghost tale, The Turn of the Screw. When a governess is hired to care for two children at a British country estate, she begins to sense an otherworldly presence around the grounds. Are they really ghosts she's seeing? Or is something far more sinister at work?

Great Narration But...
Revisado: 01-15-20
I bought this recording because Emma Thompson is the narrator. She is terrific breathing as much life into this story as possible. However Henry James' work has not aged well. While it may have been scary in its time, in an age that has brought us The Exorcist and The Shining, the idea of two young children being influenced by evil has become a cliché. The plot is overly dramatic and predictable. The best thing that I can say about Turn of The Screw (besides the fantastic narration) is that it is short.

Historia
In the late 2000s, Molly Bloom, a twenty something petite brunette from Loveland Colorado, ran the highest stakes, most exclusive poker game Hollywood had ever seen - she was its mistress, its lion tamer, its agent, and its oxygen. Everyone wanted in, few were invited to play. Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Molly's game became the game for those in the know - celebrities, business moguls, and millionaires.

Highly Entertaining
Revisado: 03-16-19
I recommend this Audible recording, especially if you want something light and entertaining. I came to the book after watching the movie. I found it very interesting to learn the background details of Molly Bloom's life and the activities which are only hinted at or briefly mentioned in the movie. I also enjoyed the insights that the author provided concerning the successful men and their lifestyles who participate in high stakes gambling. What made this recording most worthwhile was the performance of the narrator. She was able to bring the story to life, especially Molly, so that I could only root for her and all that she was able to accomplish and the obstacles/abuse that she had to overcome.

Historia
Emma can be enjoyed as a charming love story, a detective story, and a comic and lively picture of English life 200 years ago. Austen's beautiful, clever, wilful but fallible heroine Emma Woodhouse believes she knows best. Perfectly content with her life she sees no need for either love or marriage, yet nothing pleases her more than meddling in the romantic lives of others.

Biting Satire of Manners
Revisado: 03-16-19
I greatly enjoyed the book and the narration. This is only the fourth Jane Austen novel that I have listened to/read and found it very different than the others. It is much more biting in its satire of the life, manners, and prejudices of the English country gentry. Unlike the other novels that I am familiar with- Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Persuasion - the main character is not particularly likable as are almost all of her acquaintances except for Mr. Knightley and Jane Fairfax. I especially liked the fact that by the author focusing on describing the interactions of the many characters, I could not determine the final outcome of the plot until almost the end of the novel. The narrator was terrific. It is obvious that Ms. Agutter is a very experienced and talented actress; she was able to bring all of the novel's many characters to life, each with their own distinctive personality.I recommend this Audible recording most highly.

Historia
First published in 1869, Little Women is the story of four sisters growing up against the background of the American Civil War. Alcott wrote the book at the urging of the publisher, Thomas Niles, who was seeking a story about girls that would have popular appeal. Although it was commenced essentially as a children's book, it developed into something of a bildungsroman, which touches on more serious issues such as the difficulties faced by single-parent families, the death of a sibling, and fractured relationships.

A Memorable Performance
Revisado: 01-18-19
I had never read Little Women and was initially afraid that listening to it with a cast would be disjointed and difficult to follow.
However, after the first few minutes of listening to this performance, I was quickly able to recognize each character by the voice of their respective actress/actor. Everyone involved performed their roles superbly, bringing to life their character in a way that made the story emotional and more rewarding. I doubt that a single narrator would have been as successful. In addition, I was especially impressed at how smoothly the verbal exchanges between the characters and with the narrator were accomplished. I greatly enjoyed this recording and most highly recommend it.

Historia
In this Audible Exclusive production, Academy Award® nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) narrates one of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Sense and Sensibility. In this timeless tale of misguided romance and heartbreak, two teenage heroines must overcome the pitfalls of Georgian England’s high society in order to achieve the love and happiness they seek. The admiration that Pike has for Austen’s work is shown clearly through this passionate delivery of Austen’s first published novel.

Timeless
Revisado: 12-17-18
It goes without saying that the story is a classic. However, what gives it more meaning and emotion is the power and art of the narrator. I already had heard Rosamund Pike narrate Pride and Prejudice which I cannot recommend more highly. She did not disappoint and her reading here was as good or better than the other novel. Again, I cannot recommend an Audible recording more highly. You will not be disappointed.

Highly Recommended
Revisado: 12-02-18
I was unfamiliar with Anne Bronte's writings until I listened to this recording. The themes in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will be familiar to a 21st Century reader - spousal abuse, alcoholism, and a woman's attempt to maintain her own identity - and are more modern than in her sisters' better known Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Due to the organization of the story, the use of two narrators is very effective and both narrators are outstanding.Although it is a long book and at times disturbing, I highly recommend the book and this recording. I look forward to reading/listening to Anne Bronte's other novel Agnes Grey.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Interesting Victorian Trivia
Revisado: 12-02-18
This recording is an eclectic collection of little known trivia from the Victorian and early Edwardian eras. It is organized into 12 thematic sections, each of approximately 35 minutes in length. Not surprisingly, some sections were more interesting to me than others. For those people who are easily shocked, this recording is not for you since there are sections that discuss lunacy and insane asylums, freaks, Victorian pornography, and homosexuality (even though the concept did not exist during this period). Stephen Fry's narration is outstanding and although I usually do not like music in my Audible recordings, it is used effectively here to provide additional ambiance to the stories. All in all, I am ambivalent about this recording because I was fascinated by the sections that discussed topics that I found interesting and somewhat bored with the sections that did not.

Making Joseph Conrad Interesting
Revisado: 09-09-18
I feel like an uneducated Philistine by saying that I have attempt to read Conrad's Heart of Darkness a number of times but have never been able to complete it. In all cases, I failed because I found Conrad's dense prose, lack of story, and philosophical musings boring. However, Sir Kenneth Branagh is able to make the story come to life in a way that that the prose and musings become interesting and worth the time digesting. I understand now why this book is considered a classic of English literature. I highly recommend this Audible book.
