Historia
Chandler Gray never imagined during her journey to earn a nursing degree, she would encounter a distraction, in the form of firefighter, Moses Lawson. With the chaos of supporting her mother after her father’s passing and completing her internship and practicum, Chandler had no time for a relationship. However, Moses’ persistence, charisma, and rugged good looks made her think again. Perhaps a summer fling with no strings attached was just what the doctor ordered.

Adjusted Speed, Better Output
Revisado: 03-19-24
I love the way the story played out. Initially I was hard on my review of the readers. Once I adjusted the speed of the sound output, it sounded way better, thankfully. This tale was the love story we've all hoped for. The happy ending was typical, but still made my heart sing with the hope that somebody, somewhere, will end up with the love they always wanted - that special someone.

Historia
On September 9, 1971, nearly 1,300 prisoners took over the Attica Correctional Facility in upstate New York to protest years of mistreatment. Holding guards and civilian employees hostage, the prisoners negotiated with officials for improved conditions during the four long days and nights that followed. On September 13, the state abruptly sent hundreds of heavily armed troopers and correction officers to retake the prison by force. Their gunfire killed 39 men - hostages as well as prisoners.

Well read!
Revisado: 11-19-23
Heather Ann Thompson is one of my preferred historians. This tome of hers is super thorough and not monotonous, given the book's length. The chosen reader did a really good job as well. It's probably the best I've heard in an audiobook.

Historia
A wide-ranging cultural and political history that will forever redefine a misunderstood decade, Stayin' Alive is prize-winning historian Jefferson Cowie's remarkable account of how working-class America hit the rocks in the political and economic upheavals of the 1970s. In this edgy and incisive book, Cowie, with "an ear for the power and poetry of vernacular speech" (Cleveland Plain Dealer), reveals America's fascinating path from rising incomes and optimism of the New Deal to the widening economic inequalities and dampened expectations of the present.

This was really long, but that's typical for an academic book.
The narrative was good though.

Historia
Born to a poor couple who were tenant farmers on a plantation in Mississippi, Anne Moody lived through some of the most dangerous days of the pre-civil rights era in the South. The week before she began high school came the news of Emmet Till's lynching. Before then, she had "known the fear of hunger, hell, and the Devil. But now there was…the fear of being killed just because I was black." In that moment was born the passion for freedom and justice that would change her life.

Historia
Winter Santiaga hit time served. Still stunning, still pretty, still bold, still loves her father more than any man in the world, still got her hustle and high fashion flow. She’s eager to pay back her enemies, rebuild her father’s empire, reset his crown, and ultimately to snatch Midnight back into her life no matter which bitch had him while she was locked up. But Winter is not the only one with revenge on her mind.

Doesn't Quite Live Up to the First
Revisado: 04-01-21
Edit;
Eventually, the book became intriguing. It wasn't until somewhere around chapter 30 when things all came to a head when Winter was "rescued" by her son. And that ending for chapter 32 though... Nice!
Original review:
I'm struggling to listen to the story. No disrespect to Nia Long, I think she's a great actress. But the tone she takes with reading the book is unlike the Winter Santiaga we know.
I can appreciate what Souljah tried to accomplish with Coldest II, but the language departs, again, from the Winter with whom we were acquainted.
There is nothing progressive or even remotely intelligent about the main character, so the complex verbiage used for her internal conversation is a bit of a turnoff, in THIS case.
Again, no disrespect at all. I love most of Sister Souljah's novels, and perhaps if I had a physical book, rather than the audio version, I could appreciate it more. Unfortunately, I'm not really feeling this one.

Historia
Lynch mobs, chain gangs, and popular views of black Southern criminals that defined the Jim Crow South are well known. We know less about the role of the urban North in shaping views of race and crime in American society. Chronicling the emergence of deeply embedded notions of black people as a dangerous race of criminals by explicit contrast to working-class whites and European immigrants, this fascinating book reveals the influence such ideas have had on urban development and social policies.

Historia
Conspiracy theories are as old as politics. But conspiracists today have introduced something new - conspiracy without theory. And the new conspiracism has moved from the fringes to the heart of government with the election of Donald Trump. In A Lot of People Are Saying, Russell Muirhead and Nancy Rosenblum reveal how the new conspiracism differs from classic conspiracy theory, why so few officials speak truth to conspiracy, and what needs to be done to resist it.

I wasn't really in love with the book because it came across as anti Trump and anti Republican. That's just as conspiratorial as the content of the narrative.

Historia
In 1930s and 1940s Vienna, child psychiatrist Hans Asperger sought to define autism as a diagnostic category, aiming to treat those children, usually boys, he deemed capable of participating fully in society. Depicted as a compassionate and devoted researcher, Asperger was in fact deeply influenced by Nazi psychiatry. Although he did offer individualized care to children he deemed promising, he also prescribed harsh institutionalization and even transfer to Spiegelgrund for children with greater disabilities, who, he held, could not integrate into the community.
