Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Excellent!
Revisado: 04-02-25
This is by far one of the best books I’ve read. I will admit I almost stopped listening at the beginning. It was all a bit too heavy for me. But, I’m so glad I stuck it out. The characters are all so realistic and well-developed. The narrator is excellent.

Historia
Lucy is the tourist vacationing at a beach house on Prince Edward Island. Felix is the local who shows her a very good time. The only problem: Lucy doesn’t know he’s her best friend’s younger brother. Lucy and Felix’s chemistry is unreal, but the list of reasons why they need to stay away from each other is long, and they vow to never repeat that electric night again. It’s easier said than done.

Soooo boring
Revisado: 08-25-24
Let me start by saying I am not a writer and I’m not sure I could write a convincing story. However, this book was really so boring. This is my third Carley Fortune book and by far my least favorite. I think it was my last. I found Lucy to be unrealistic and incredibly childish. The whole book read like a tween’s view of adulthood and Lucy was so immature I found it unbelievable she could own a thriving business and purchase real estate. Also, where was the editor? There was so much unnecessary detail in the book. The story and the audio probably could have been trimmed down by several hours. One line that stood out (I’m paraphrasing bc I can’t possibly go back) was: “I show Felix how to use my coffee maker and he makes a pot while I’m in the shower.” There’s so much of this kind of detail that does nothing to move the story forward. Why?? I feel like I know so much about their tea and coffee preferences but to what end? Snooze. I honestly should have stopped listening but I wanted to give the author the benefit of the doubt.

Historia
If you think the English countryside is all green wellies, muddy Land Rovers, and grey-haired ladies in tweed, then you’ve never visited The Bottoms. Welcome to the rose-strewn county of Oxfordshire, and the tony Cotswold villages of Little Bottom, Middle Bottom, Great Bottom, and Monkton Bottom, recently annexed by a glittering new breed of female: the Country Princess.

Historia
Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

Great read
Revisado: 10-25-23
So many reviews say there’s no plot line — I disagree. There are three mini stories that wind together for a subtle but lovely conclusion. That said, I do think I enjoyed this book more as a former New Yorker and might not have been as amused by the characters otherwise.

Historia
Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends in months. Sex? Seems like a lot of effort. Even cooking dinner takes far too much planning. Sasha has hit a wall. Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga, and find peace, she heads to the seaside resort she loved as a child. But it’s the off season, the hotel is in a dilapidated shambles, and she has to share the beach with the only other occupant: a grumpy guy named Finn.

Fabulous, As Always
Revisado: 10-21-23
I’ve been reading Sophie Kinsella’s work for almost 20 years, since Confessions of a Shopaholic. She never, never disappoints! This book was a bit more serious than some of her other stories but I loved it. Sasha and her burnout were so relatable to modern life and the message was great. Already looking forward to her next release!

Historia
2019: Andie Figuero has just landed her dream job as a producer of Mansion Makeover, a popular reality show about restoring America’s most lavish historic houses. Andie has high hopes for her latest project: the once glorious but gently crumbling Sprague Hall in Newport, Rhode Island, summer resort of America’s gilded class—famous for the lavish “summer cottages” of Vanderbilts and Belmonts. But Andie runs into trouble: the reclusive heiress who still lives in the mansion, Lucia “Lucky” Sprague, will only allow the show to go forward on two conditions.

Fabulous!
Revisado: 07-14-23
I absolutely loved this book! The story, writing, and multiple perspectives were all wonderful in this book. I usually am wary of books with multiple narrators, but the three intertwined stories and corresponding narration were perfect. I have a background in American Fine and Decorative Art and particularly enjoyed Andie’s story. It was a wonderful blending of historical and contemporary fiction — a summer must-read!
