Historia
When Norm Macdonald, one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, was approached to write a celebrity memoir, he flatly refused, calling the genre “one step below instruction manuals.” Norm then promptly took a two-year hiatus from stand-up comedy to live on a farm in northern Canada. When he emerged he had under his arm a manuscript, a genre-smashing book about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war, and redemption. When asked if this was the celebrity memoir, Norm replied, “Call it anything you damn like.”

If you like Norm you like the book. Its a ridiculous, poignant, nonsensical, first person, third person, memoir road trip that may, or may not be completely factual. Performed by Norm. You like Norm you like the book.

Historia
Jon Padgett's The Secret of Ventriloquism, named the Best Fiction Book of 2016 by Rue Morgue Magazine, heralds the arrival of a significant new literary talent. With themes reminiscent of Shirley Jackson, Thomas Ligotti, and Bruno Schulz, but with a strikingly unique vision, Padgett's work explores the mystery of human suffering, the agony of personal existence, and the ghastly means by which someone might achieve salvation from both.

Truly "weird fiction". Highly recommended.
Revisado: 10-10-22
This is a really good. One of the most unsettling things I've ever read/listened to. It's awesome that the author does the reading. I say with no hyperbole that he does a fantastic job. Strong performance with an excellent range. Effective, tasteful and appropriate throughout. The collection starts solid, but there's not much hint as to how far out and deep things get later. I don't want to give away anything and I recommend you try not to expose yourself to any possible spoilers. Simply pick a time when you have an extended period in which to listen. Ever gone to the bathroom in the middle of the night and avoided looking into the mirror because you were worried you'd see something besides yourself in the reflection? That feeling is this book.

Good Listen
Revisado: 09-29-22
An enjoyable listen. The author keeps an objective perspective while keeping the story interesting. He does an excellent job of laying out the setting and background, and then unveils the events piece by piece as one might experience if one was alive at the time and reading through various newspaper clippings. It is no wonder that this author is so well respected in the true crime genre.
The narrator was excellent. Good voice for the subject matter without being ham fisted-ly ghoulish or dark. I've heard more than a few narrators that over do the noir "gravel and bass" voice. It is self indulgent and it ruins a good story, STOP IT!! lol.. This is a book reading, not a movie trailer!!... This narration was wonderful though. A completely competent balance of flow, enunciation and tonality. I do not think it could have been cast or performed better. *Recommended

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

It's alright...
Revisado: 08-12-21
The story is a steady crawl downward from bleak to bleaker accented with gobs of worm gore here and there. If that sounds fun then you may want to check it out. I was kinda nonplussed by the whole thing in the end. I liked the descriptions of the hunger, i thought that stuff was pretty cool, and the lab scenes were crazy, and so was the rest of the gore but its that common pitfall of splatter where it sort of gets homogenized it loses its shock after a while. I'd play it off to subject matter.. all worms, all scout troops, one island. A good effort was made though.

Kelley Baker is the Angry Filmmaker. But his independent films are not angry - they're honest. He's angry at the state of independent film. For Baker, it's about telling the story, not what actors are starring in it. Here, with all his attitude, is the wisdom of an Angry Filmmaker, gained the hard way, through experience.

Real talk for anyone who wants to try to realize their vision. A cold shower, a wake up call and your own anti-motivational motivator. I'm a fan of film but I want to work in audio and I took a lot of inspiration form this. Good performance too. It comes off kinda edgy at first but after a while it totally fits. Yeah, its good, you should listen to it.

A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik's Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd. Good book
Revisado: 12-07-20
Saw movie(s), liked them, wanted to check out the book. The book fills in some details the movie left out and also opens up some new mysteries. I find it completely disgusting when people want everything explained in a story and I like to let them know that I feel that way (en garde!). Enjoy the mystery. Just planting seeds... There's some brief meandering in parts with some of the side story but it's not too bad. Good narrator. Always clear, good pace and energy. It's hard to revive the vampire tale successfully but this book pulled it off well. Solid recommendation for fans of the movie(s) and horror fans. If you like this, read Clive Barker and vice versa.
