It was another banger by Quintrell. This was a pretty good one, a bit better than book 2 and a bit worse than book 1. Awesome monster on monster on ranger combat. Asher isn't even my favorite character in these books but I still really enjoyed his back story told over this trilogy. Seeing Russell's was great too.

Legend. Myth. Nightfall has long been rumored to be nothing more than whispers on the breeze. If only it were so. In those halls of darkness, where children are taken from the world and given to shadow and dust, Asher is destined for that same fate. He will become the myth. He will become the legend. He will become the whisper of Death itself.

Historia
The planet LV-363 teems with exotic life, including a plant growing in the shadows of its deep rifts. The plant’s flower yields a valuable narcotic, and people are forced by the cartels to harvest it. When a Yautja (Predator) ship arrives for a hunting ritual, the Predators seed the rifts with Xenomorph eggs. The aliens emerge and the result is bizarre and deadly hybrids, with humans trapped between the Predators and their prey. These deadly Xenomorph hybrids—some of which possess the ability to fly—swarm out of control and may prove more than the Yautja or the humans can defeat.

It was alright.
Revisado: 12-12-24
The narration wasn't very good. Lots of mispronunciations which took me out of the story. The story itself is what you expect: a decent reason to throw a bunch of Predators, Humans and Xenos together. It plays out how you think with some good action but it never goes outside the premise of the story or throws any surprises. I am glad this was a free book, at least when I read it, and I wouldn't recommend spending much money on it. Flying Xenos were pretty cool.

Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time. This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.

Written by the horniest of teenagers
Revisado: 09-04-24
This book is really really horny. The MC is supposed to be this old age that has lived all these lifetimes but... they ever only tell you that. The story never shows you. There are a lot of cut to black sex scenes that then shoehorn in some sex act at the close of the chapter, like "when the fox man cums his tail wags". The character was also supposed to be this smart confident woman but most of the time it just felt like a woman only in name and just a horny teenager in disguise.
There is a scene where the MC talks about how they are the greatest general in the land because of all her lifetimes but the plan she comes up with is just to bottleneck fight in a canyon and hid some troops in a cave behind the enemy force. A fine plan but a far cry from a military genius.
The performance was stellar. The VO had great tone was understandable and did a variety of voices letting you know who was speaking. I wish this was a better book for her.
The worst part is the "to be continued" at the end with any sort of resolution for this book. Just terrible and I wish I got my money back.

Terrible Pronunciation
Revisado: 03-27-24
Most of the stories are pretty cool and fit in well with the rest of the lore of the High Republic. We get little snippets of characters we know and plenty of new ones to discover.
However it is beyond baffling that nearly all of the narrators can't pronounce the word "Nihil" correctly. Most of them, all but one, say "Nile" like the river. It is frustrating that they seemingly didn't care enough to get the main antagonist's names correct. Since only one got it right I am giving them that many stars.

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Very juvenile
Revisado: 07-19-23
I was excited for the premise of this book. It was terrible. Mostly from the dialogue and tone. It had some interesting ideas but would ruin that almost immediately with middle school grade dialogue.
This is the second book by this author I gave a shot to and I don't understand how they get paid to write or how they were able to land a job writing for Aliens. It is baffling.
The narrator did a good job.

Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Oh great a Kaiju story!
Revisado: 06-22-23
Too bad it isn't really about Kaiju. This is more of a corporate espionage story that has Kaiju set pieces. If you are looking for a Kaiju action story with cool fights and big smashed up set pieces you will be sorely disappointed.
Instead this is a story about a down on his luck loser that gets a new job tending to Kaiju on an alternate world. It is much more about his experiences, and making non stop lame lower than dad level jokes constantly. The Kaiju are barely described and only with generalizations. We get better descriptions of crablike tree parasites at one point.
I like Wil Wheaton, however his narration was not very good. Basically no characterization and his tone is all over the place. It certainly didn't help any of the lame jokes land. It was like he just picked it up and read the words on the pages aloud only really changing the volume of his voice. Him reading a different book without character work might be worth listening to but this ain't it.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I loved this book. I have read a few dozen King books and often times the experience is a bit tarnished by the ending. Not this time. Incredible story, incredible characters and Radar might just be one of the best damn dogs ever.
