Musk, A True American Hero
Revisado: 07-23-24
I spent 3+ decades working for one of the other US major defense contractors that Elon competes against for proving access to space. I followed Space X closely during my working career. While so many of my coworkers laughed at, a made joked regarding, Space X during its early years I never doubted Elon's potential to succeed. Now my former employer is struggling massively to keep up with Space X. I hope Elon goes on to a lifetime of ever more greatness. It is people like Elon that Make America Ever Greater....Not our elected clown politicians.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Historia
Barons is the story of seven corporate titans, their rise to power, and the consequences for everyone else. Take Mike McCloskey, chairman of Fair Oaks Farms. In a few short decades, he went from managing a modest dairy herd to running the Disneyland of agriculture. Mike benefited from deregulation of the American food industry, a phenomenon that has consolidated wealth in the hands of select tycoons, and along the way, hollowed out the nation's rural towns and local businesses.

We Are What We Eat
Revisado: 07-12-24
And unfortunately we now, more and more, eat trash. Maybe that explains current state of our nation and society? Between the food that we eat and the media we consume is it any wonder we are riding a crazy train to self destruction? It is sad, but true. Excellent book for self analysis.

Historia
Like a thief in the night, artificial intelligence has inserted itself into our lives. It makes important decisions for us every day. Often, we barely notice. As Joe Allen writes in this groundbreaking book, “Transhumanism is the great merger of humankind with the Machine. At this stage in history, it consists of billions using smartphones. Going forward, we’ll be hardwiring our brains to artificial intelligence systems.” With an academic background in both science and theology, Allen confronts the paradox of what he calls “good people constructing a digital abomination.”

Could Not Finish This Book

Maybe this topic was just not for me, but I personally found the topics and writings in this book to be a rambling mishmash of religion, politics, and personal grievances opposing technology. I'll have give it a relisten at some later date?

Historia
At the dawn of the 20th century, humanity was facing global disaster. Mass starvation, long predicted for the fast-growing population, was about to become a reality. A call went out to the worlds scientists to find a solution. This is the story of the two enormously gifted, fatally flawed men who found it: the brilliant, self-important Fritz Haber and the reclusive, alcoholic Carl Bosch. Together they discovered a way to make bread out of air, built city-sized factories, controlled world markets, and saved millions of lives.

Excellent Story Of Science Used For Good And Bad
Revisado: 07-30-23
As with nuclear power the Haber-Bosch process was also used to destroy humans and the world we built. Imagine nuclear technology if only used to produce electric power, medical treatments, ect and not WMD's? The same story is the result of the HB process. Used to produce fertilizer and bombs.

Historia
Global demand for power is doubling every two decades, but electricity remains one of the most difficult forms of energy to supply and do so reliably. Today, some three billion people live in places where per-capita electricity use is less than what's used by an average American refrigerator. How we close the colossal gap between the electricity rich and the electricity poor will determine our success in addressing issues like women's rights, inequality, and climate change.

Historia
Timothy McVeigh wanted to start a movement. Speaking to his lawyers days after the Oklahoma City bombing, the Gulf War veteran expressed no regrets: killing 168 people was his patriotic duty. New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Toobin traces the dramatic history and profound legacy of Timothy McVeigh, who once declared, “I believe there is an army out there, ready to rise up, even though I never found it.” But that doesn’t mean his army wasn’t there. With news-breaking reportage, Toobin details how McVeigh’s principles and tactics have flourished in the decades since his death in 2001.

Historia
Mother American Night is the wild, funny, heartbreaking, and often unbelievable (yet completely true) story of an American icon. Born into a powerful Wyoming political family, John Perry Barlow wrote the lyrics for thirty Grateful Dead songs while also running his family’s cattle ranch. He hung out in Andy Warhol’s Factory, went on a date with the Dalai Lama’s sister, and accidentally shot Bob Weir in the face on the eve of his own wedding. Despite being a freely self-confessed acidhead, he served as Dick Cheney’s campaign manager during Cheney’s first run for Congress.

Just A Great Story Of A Life Lived
Revisado: 01-09-23
I grew up in the 70's listening to The Dead and seeing them play live. Did many of the things Dead Heads did during those times. I've lived in Wyoming for all of my post retirement life. It is truly amazing how some people can pack so much living into a single lifetime. John Perry Barlow certainly did that to the max.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

It will be interesting (instructive) to relisten to this book every few years and see how it (the world) is progressing, or not? If you invest (financially) based on Peter's prediction, and he is mostly correct, you should reap some nice returns.

As one of the strategists behind the famous 2012 RNC “autopsy,” Miller conducts his own forensic study on the pungent carcass of the party he used to love, cutting into all the hubris, ambition, idiocy, desperation, and self-deception for everyone to see. In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

An OK Story Of Personal Reflection
Revisado: 07-22-22
It's a story likely being told by hundreds of former Trump/GOP supporters. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in many of the rooms of those who came in contact with Trump since 2016....especially Mike Pence, Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo, ect. I suspect they all wish Trump would just go away.
