Historia
At its most basic level, Allied Capital is the story of Wall Street at its worst. But the story is much bigger than one little-known company. Fooling Some of the People All of the Time is an important call for effective law enforcement, free speech, and fair play.

Fascinating. I appreciate the author's powerful analytical mind and relentless determination. Some may find it too detailed, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Historia
The espionage activities of cunning ship's surgeon Stephen Maturin have kept him at odds with the most important French agent in the Mediterranean, Lesueur, a man with a long memory and a taste for revenge. When that revenge takes the shape of the delicate and distracting Mrs. Fielding, who also attracts the ever-wandering eye of Jack Aubrey, Stephen's sensibilities are severely tested.

Fine writing, interesting development, even of peripheral characters. Fast moving and fun. I keep returning to these books and find them an enduring source of pleasure.

Historia
World War II changed the course of history. Douglas MacArthur changed the course of World War II. Macarthur at War goes deeper into this transformative period of his life than previous biographies, drilling into the military strategy that Walter R. Borneman is so skilled at conveying and exploring how personality and ego translate into military successes and failures.

Borneman is thorough in his research and balanced in his conclusions. This is a well-written account of a complex, interesting man.

Historia
When Mark Twain was growing up, all he wanted to be was a steamboat man. And so Twain ran away in pursuit of his dream. Life on the mighty river for Twain consisted of paddleboats and history, poker games and gamblers, larger-than-life characters and outlandish festivals like Mardi Gras. Twain recorded it all with his keen eye for detail and biting wit.

Great Book, Poor Audio, Flat Reading
Revisado: 06-11-05
Twain's fine book brings the mid 19th century Mississippi to life for the reader. The audio quality is poor and inadequate. The reader is old fashioned and flat. He's adequate for later, more introspective sections, but not up to the wonderful, hilarious early sections in which Twain learns to pilot the Mississippi.

Historia
The Peace of Amiens has left Jack Aubrey with no ship, no enemy to pursue, and no possibility of prize money to supplement his meager income. His decision to seek refuge from his troubles, and creditors, in France proves doubly disastrous.
