Historia
In a residential Washington, D.C., neighborhood, a young woman's body is found in the basement of an abandoned house - starved to death in a cage, along with the video footage of a dark and deadly ritual. The victim is identified as the daughter of a prominent D.C. politician, and it falls to the FBI to track down the unconscionable psychopath who murdered her. FBI special agent Sayer Altair would rather conduct research on criminality than catch actual criminals. But when she's offered a promotion hinging on her next assignment, she reluctantly accepts the "Cage Killer" case.

Worth a listen
Revisado: 03-08-20
Spent all of a Saturday listening to this & found it quite enjoyable. I've become much more discerning in my rating, giving out fewer 5's mindlessly & providing more written info.
Found the characters interesting & believable with no "dumbing down" of the female
characters or descriptions of their body parts.
overall, a good book to spend the day with which is a good thing because at times you won't be able to put it down.
t it helps

Historia
FBI special agent Zoe Spencer uses skeletal remains to recreate the faces of murder victims through sculpture. Though highly scientific, the process is also sensitive and intimate; she becomes attached to the individuals she identifies, desperate to find justice for each. As Zoe examines old remains, she sees a teenage girl looking back at her - the victim in a cold case from over a decade ago.

Okay, but kind of weak
Revisado: 03-07-20
Story was predictable & hard to get into. Found myself having to rewind to listen to parts that just would not hold my attention.
Narration was a big downer for me. The male voices sounded like someone reading to children to demonstrate "this is what the big strong man sounds like" and the women either sound like Nurse Ratched
or simpering ingenues. Okay if you're looking for something to pass the time with, but I wouldn't spend a credit on it
again.

Historia
She’ll never forget...I’ll never forgive. People always notice my daughter, Isobel. How could they not? Incredibly beautiful...until she speaks. An unsettling little-girl voice, exactly like a child’s, but from the mouth of a full-grown woman. Izzie might look grown up, but inside she’s trapped. Caught in the day it happened...the day that broke her from within. Our family fell apart that day, and we never could pick up the pieces....

Good character development some feel makes it slow
Revisado: 02-08-20
...but I think is just that; laying the groundwork. I did get a bit tangled up in which character was which and who was with who, but could figure it out within a sentence or two.
Hence the 4 stars. I don't want to work that hard when listening for pleasure. But overall I recommend this book.

Really a 5 star book
Revisado: 02-07-20
Fantastic story & narration earned every one of those stars. Great characters engage in realistic interactions & some plotlines had so much energy I found my heart pounding while waiting to hear what's coming. Several times I told the characters what to do, something I've never done before. This book is taut, funny, & realistic. Highly recommend it.
Now if only the narrator could pronounce the name of one of the Great Lakes it would be perfect.

Historia
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

Great story, narration good not not 5 star good. Still, a good read that would make a snuggle up snowy day fly by which it did.

I don't give out 5 star ratings willy-nilly, but when breaking it down to the three subjects, all three really were excellent. I really wish they had half stars, but since they don't, I'll do what many a college professor didn't do enough & round up. Definitely worth your time & $$.

Historia
Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them.

Excellent narrator, really good story, just not quite 5 star worthy. I would still highly recommend. Definitely a page turner with lots of fun plot twists & turns. Worth every penny.

Outstanding page turner!
Revisado: 01-19-20
Absolutely loved this book. I couldn't read it fast enough yet I didn't want it to end. Compelling story, rich, multifaceted characters, and excellent narration made this one of the best books I've read in the past year.
This book will challenge the behaviors and beliefs of everyone who reads it, not only those about race, but gender, education, employment, you name it, yet never feels preachy.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Epic.
Revisado: 04-11-19
Really, this is an epic tale that I struggle to categorize into one specific genre. Family drama, historical novel, love story, mystery, an ode to Cape Breton, and oh, so much more.
Each chapter unfurls at a different speed & with a different urgency based on from whichever character's perspective/voice we are hearing. Each character is fully fleshed out & multifaceted. They experience the same events completely differently & MacDonald expertly weaves their individual stories together.
Clear your schedule & enjoy!
