Historia
Qi’ra listened to the dreams and promises of a boy with a reckless smile, only to be torn away from him and returned to the White Worms gang while Han made his way to freedom. Now freedom seems like a luxury she can’t afford while she concentrates on survival and despairs of ever leaving Corellia. But her fortunes seem to turn when a representative of the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn plucks Qi’ra from captivity and brings her to the syndicate’s leader, the mysterious and mercurial Dryden Vos.

Good performance, just okay story
Revisado: 02-15-24
I really enjoy E. K. Johnston’s writing on the whole (both within the Star Wars universe and outside of it), but this particular story just didn’t quite grab me. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, and I occasionally had to Google the character list to try to remember who was who and why they were important. It was interesting to get the backstory on Qi’ra’s ascent into the syndicate, but she’s also not a character I feel very attached to, so maybe that’s why I wasn’t in love with the story. It was not bad, just not great, either.

When Jyn Erso was five years old, her mother was murdered and her father taken from her to serve the Empire. But despite the loss of her parents, she is not completely alone - Saw Gerrera, a man willing to go to any extremes necessary in order to resist Imperial tyranny, takes her in as his own and gives her not only a home but all the abilities and resources she needs to become a rebel herself.

A great exploration of Jyn Erso!
Revisado: 02-10-24
I loved the story and the chance to find out about Jyn’s life before Rogue One. I felt like this filled in so much depth to her character, who I already loved, that we didn’t get in the movie or even the novelization of it. The only thing that bumps the performance down a star is that the narrator, while she does a great job for the vast majority of the book, doesn’t always maintain a consistent accent for Jyn — it gets dropped entirely at times, sometimes even within the course of 30 seconds, or picked up in the middle of the dialogue. It doesn’t detract from the story or the performance as a whole, but it was enough to distract me as I listened.

Not my favorite Holmes story overall, but a really nice performance by Ian McKellan. I don't regret purchasing this one at all!

Historia
With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.
