A former resident of the ultra-elite Manhattan upper class, Ruby now works as a maid in the type of houses she used to live in. Drawn out for nothing

Not much to day other than it was a long story without much depth or mystery to it. Wish this was an audible original so it could have been free.

Bartosz and Angelika (he’s a chef, she’s a former sex worker) carry debts to the other couples they don’t even realize they owe. Unlikely
Revisado: 04-17-25
I listened until the end to give it the benefit of the doubt but there were too many coincidences for me for a book full of strangers. Just not believable enough.

Historia
Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.

Entertaining but predictable
Revisado: 04-17-25
I enjoyed listening to this while going for walks but the storyline was predictable as it unfolded. I was hoping for something a little harder to guess where the story was headed.

Called "powerful and provocative" by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of the New York Times best-selling How to Be an Antiracist, this explosive book of history and cultural criticism reveals how White feminism has been used as a weapon of white supremacy and patriarchy deployed against Black and Indigenous women and women of color.

Informative and thought-provoking
Revisado: 01-10-24
Well written, informative, thought-provoking.
I love how the book is organized, how she taps into the way things are, how they came to be this way, and the possibilities that lie ahead.
Well worth the read.
It helps bring awareness to the lived experience that people of color have as well as the work that needs to be done yet.

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Just what I needed!
Revisado: 06-02-23
She always helps me realize I'm not failing, I'm just human and doing my best as I learn and grow. I appreciate the way she opens up and shares challenges and the support behind the success. It's easy to connect with her stories and emotions. She's inspiring and encouraging in everyday ways. This will be the first book we read for my book club, I can't wait to hear other womens' takeaways from this book.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Bingeworthy
Revisado: 05-18-22
I couldn't stop listening. I listened while I grocery shopped, cleaned, cooked... Any moment I had that didn't require my full attention, this book got.
I loved Viola before but I love her even more now. She's incredibly vulnerable, raw, and transparent in this book. I'm so grateful for her sharing her experience as a dark skinned woman in America without watering it down or making it easier for anyone to hear.
This book tore me to shreds and put me back together again. Her stories and the way she tells them are soul piercing. I'm so grateful she didn't just write this but that she published it because there's two-way healing in sharing like this.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Powerful must read for anyone looking to heal
Revisado: 06-13-21
One of the best books I've listened to in a long time. So many important conversations taking place in this book. I'm going to listen to this several more times as I reflect on what I need out of this for myself, my family, and the world around me. Highly recommended.
