short and ultimately empty
Revisado: 03-25-25
Easily the weakest and shortest of the series, it does a lot of prep work for the next few books but little else. It ends on a hollow note as well. It doesn't kill my desire to continue the series but for those who are somehow still on the fence after 7 books, it may have. It's a 6-7/10 book from an overall 8-9/10 series so I'm feeling a little more let down than I'd feel from some other series. It feels like the author sped wrote through all the set up just to get it out of the way and to have more time on the next few, genuinely hoping that's the case. There are a few defining moments but ultimately a paragraph or two could be written on the few major events and you'd be caught up for the next book.

Historia
It seems like a lifetime ago that Thedeim was a mortal man. After a fatal accident, he was transported to a strange realm to begin again as a living low-level dungeon. But he didn't stay small for long. With a powerful will, he built his dungeon self into a force to be reckoned with, full of minions, creepy crawlies, and a hedge maze to die for. Except Thedeim isn't a place where delvers die. He's a different, friendlier kind of dungeon, which suits both him and his many allies just fine. But being a nice dungeon means taking on some not-so-nice entities.

Oh, please don't let this be the end. I don't know how they'd ever end this series better but I need more of this world and Thedm. So many open endings but also such a grand finish to the book. I will be waiting for more even it never comes.

I didn't dislike it
Revisado: 12-19-24
I'm writing this review very early because my opinions have been building up and I think they apply even an hour or two in. The narrator is not my favorite, that's fine, it's not like he's terrible, but the unedited breathiness is disruptive to the flow of the story. Also he talks very slowly in this book for some reason. I have the book sped up to 1.15 which seems more natural, and I never, ever, felt like I HAD to speed up an audio book before. I've experimented a few times but it affected the experience negatively, until now. Also just had a funny hypothetical, Reina gets told to get F'd. Reina embraces her inner young master and goes "You're courting death, I will fornicate so hard and so long that when I return as an immortal I will erase you from this mortal plane." or something else exaggerated. Which she more or less can. "I was reborn at level 1 with a level 500 sex skill that boosted me to God Queen by having copious amounts of s*x with my boyfriend."

I love the idea and characters
Revisado: 11-06-24
I loved the idea of the system, the man between worlds and the coming of age/transitioning into a functional adult themes, as well as all the characters. They're sensible people that aren't overly dramatic but also not unemotional without cause. They're honest and mostly kind folk. I love the story buttttttttttt, I'm gonna repeat what the other reviews said, the audio editing is a bit wonky. It didn't ruin the story for me but hearing the audio echo back to me, abrupt cuts between words, random lengthy spots in the dialogue. The book starts off pretty smooth but quickly gets bumpy and stays off and on like that after 3-4 hours. Also a personal Gripe, that isn't the narrators fault but also kind of is in a way, I really dislike Mizu's voice. I was genuinely upset at the beginning when I realized that, that character was going to be so influential in the plot. The characters slow, unemotional voice is jarring compared to just about every other characters tone of voice and pacing, even the Toad(A minor character you'll meet deep into the book.) had more emotion in it's voice if you ask me. So while I disliked the narration of it, the author did write her to have a calm, thoughtful, and mostly monotope speach pattern and I can't find any other faults with the rest of the narrators voices. So label it as just a personal gripe that others might relate to.

repetitive word usage
Revisado: 11-01-24
The only thing keeping this book/series from continuing to be 5 stars overall is the repetition of small words. Brat, silly(silly girl/boy), stupid (stupid girl/boy), doggo, boop, snoot, etc. It was so off putting in the beginning, after I had just finished the cradle series that I was ready to drop this book for the moment and go to something else but I stuck with it and got acclimated to this style of writing once again. Even so, it was grating for the first 10ish hours before I just started mocking the dialogue to ignore my growing frustration. The story does get better the further you get into it, without getting into spoilers, I think the last 7-8 hours were the best. Hopefully the author adds a few more descriptive words to the MCs dialogue in the future, it's starting to become a gimmick and I don't know if I'm a fan of it like I am a fan of "GOD DAMMIT, DONUT."

unique concept
Revisado: 09-25-24
I'm not very familiar on aztecian mythology or whatever the correct term for it would be but this falls deeply into that territory and luckily maxime does elaborate on the gods purposes in the book but going in I was pretty confused. I don't know how deeply I'll go into this series, it's a bit dark for what I want to listen to right now, but the writing is great. A deeply more serious tone than the likes of the perfect run and vainquer but with just as good if not superior writing. I definitely enjoyed the writing here more than Vainquer. Also, even though the author mentioned in Vainquer that he was mocking harems in that series, harems and concubines are a important part of this stories plot so 🤷🏻♂️ I'm starting to think Maxime just can't help himself lol.
Also the choice of narrator has me off slightly, he's not bad. I've heard him from the songs of chaos series, and he plays the coming of age teenager voice well but as I am no longer a teenager I feel sort of disconnected from the character in both cases. But the narrator does do the character justice in his role of emperor and the dark tones underlying every action, as it's easy to forget our MC is only 16.
Although I gave this book overall a 4 it's only because of personal gripes that may not apply to you.

is this the end for Team Biscuit?
Revisado: 09-17-24
...oh, damn. There was no, The End. Fin. Thanks for Watching. But that was about as nicely a litrpg of this length and scope could be wrapped up. A conclusion to a chapter and a clean slate, open to imagination. There's more that could be written but I don't think there has to be. I don't follow Shirtaloon and I'm pretty late to finishing this book so I don't know if this question has already been answered, but damn. Listen to this book, slog through part 1, and just bask in the last 9ish hours. It's worth it

Not long ago, the dungeon known as Thedeim was a mere human. But after an up-close-and-personal meeting with a runaway semitruck—and subsequent dealings with a rather flustered Angel of Prodigals—he found himself in a new world, reincarnated as a run-down old house that just barely qualified as a dungeon. However, it didn't take long for him to build his core, mana, and reputation, making friends along the way.

Historia
The usual result of a human taking a runaway semitruck head-on is a very sudden, very fast track to the pearly gates. But for one newly noncorporeal man, there's another option: become a dungeon. Feeling sorry for the desperate angel assigned to him, the man relents. Heck, if it doesn't work out, he can always chat with Saint Peter about it later. Next thing you know, he's a dungeon. Admittedly, a small run-down, somewhat unimpressive dungeon (more of a house, actually), but you gotta start somewhere, right?

Not much really happened jake got to c grade and prepared for nevermore but yknow what, it was still a damn good book. I feel like I just listened to an extended slice of life episode. Coming from dotf13 (no hate to that series) this is the filler I prefer where the character chills, soaks in his achievements for a bit, then gets his shit together without super mega doom and gloom every book. Can't wait to get back into the action with nevermore.
