Historia
Have you ever had a crush on your babysitter? Taryn Ross sure did. Sixteen-year-old Charlotte was sophisticated, thoughtful, gorgeous, and fun. Taryn counted the minutes until they’d hang out. But Charlotte and her family moved away. Now a transfer student at Hillspoint University, Taryn is ready to officially come out when she runs into a familiar face at a party. Charlie, now a grad student, insists on walking a drunk Taryn home. To the detriment of Taryn’s heart (and libido), Charlie has only grown kinder (and hotter) with time.

This was a very enjoyable listen. There is a third act breakup, but it doesn’t drag on too long.

Historia
Riley is so confident and kind, and she and Valerie bond quickly over existing as multiracial teens in a very white Christian community. As Valerie explores her feelings for Riley, she begins to see that the world she knows is a carefully crafted narrative. Publicly, the girls are close friends—holding hands in prayer, rooming together at a conference. Privately, they grasp at any chance to continue their forbidden romance—until they are found out. Now, Valerie must choose between staying with a family she fears will never accept her, or running away with the girl she loves.

A cozy hug for my religiously wounded heart
Revisado: 01-29-25
It was really wonderful listening to a story read by the author, who wrote the story she wished she could have found while surviving her super religious upbringing. As an ex-evangelical myself, I truly appreciated how she balanced familial love, with the harsh reality that that love can push abusive beliefs.
While conflict existed, I also appreciated that there was no cheap third act breakups, etc. and I loved how pure the “unpure” love experienced by the MCs felt.

I missed this world!
Revisado: 01-05-22
This is such a sweet bonus piece to the Sea and Stars trilogy. It takes place the day before the trilogy begins, but since that story jumps RIGHT into the inciting incident, there’s not much time to establish where Tallora is in her personal life.
Having already completed the series (which I unequivocally LOVE) - I found that Beneath the Dark Moon adds another beautiful layer to my already favorite story.

This book does its job VERY well
Revisado: 12-06-21
Meghan O’Brien is a masterclass in lesbian erotica. This book is exactly what I wanted - tension, release, intimacy, and only just enough drama to allow catharsis at its resolution.
Here’s what you’re getting:
*Nerdy Repressed Femme x Confident Experienced Butch
*Light BDSM/Fantasy play
*A Plethora of Very Spicy Scenes
*Likeable Characters
*Seductive Narrator

This listen is great for when you don’t want to have to choose another book for a while :). I did not expect this plot, so even though it had the pacing of a Jane Austen novel, I found myself enjoying the richness Waters’ storytelling allows.

Adorable and Sexy

Listen, this isn’t high literature. It’s steamy romance. But also really adorable, and REALLY good at the streamy part. I honestly just felt great after listening to it. Highly recommend if you’re interested in a light escape :)

You’re A Monster, But You Love Me 🥺
Revisado: 04-28-21
Yes it’s a trope, but I couldn’t care less when the trope works. This is such a perfect listen for a night in, or a long drive. A perfect balance of romance, adorableness, intrigue, schmexy bits, and a lovely dash of looking-the-other-way for the morally grey romantic interest.
This listen is a treat 😚👌

Brilliant and Brutal
Revisado: 03-30-21
I was hesitant at first about this book because it felt so bleak. But Angela Dawe’s performance BLEW ME AWAY, and I was hooked enough to hold on until the story could sweep me up.
I will warn you - it’s about a future where women are scarce, and it’s incredibly realistic about the consequences of what that means for those who are left. Trigger warnings abound.
At times it feels almost callus in its realism, and yet, the MC’s journey felt so profound, I felt like if she could face it, so could I. And I’m really glad I did, because the story left me... unsure of how to feel... in the best of ways.
Incredibly well-written, the story kept me hooked, kept me analyzing myself and how gender has affected me, and forced me to face dark corners in myself I never bothered to look into.
I don’t consume stories with straight characters anymore, because I spent 30 years doing that, and I don’t feel the need to spend the time I have left on them anymore. I loved this character, and even though the only sexy moments in the book were heterosexual in nature (I -almost- found it sexy lol), I LOVED the fluidity of the MC. It challenged me to empathize outside of my point of view, and I would only be upset about it if I didn’t see how well Elison pulled it off.

I've Re-Listened to this book multiple times
Revisado: 03-17-21
I love listening to audiobooks while working - especially for books I loved and miss (which is how this whole series left me) and want to go over again to catch details I missed the first (or third) time around. Even though I'm not listening cover to cover, I find myself repeating my favorite segments to keep me from going nuts throughout the day :)
Ridge's performance in this book, particularly for the newly-introduced Harbinger, is quite good. Even when I don't agree with a performance choice, I've loved how the difference reveals new levels of subtext that I didn't notice in my own reading.
This book/series has some of the most unexpected twists I've encountered while storytelling (I'm someone who can usually smell the entire plot far in advance), and left me feeling SO MANY THINGS (in all the best ways). It is not a standalone - and I highly encourage anyone who has not read the series to just go ahead an get all three books - you won't want to wait for the next one.
Finally.... this book is steamy in such amazing ways. Simper writes some of the better (never repetitive) sapphic love scenes, and this one happens to feature a mermaid. As my wife commented after overhearing my listening, "Who writes mermaid sex? And makes it so sexy???"
