Entrancing storytelling!
Revisado: 03-22-25
Elizabeth Chadwick's novels always immerse me. She's one of the most talented historical fiction novelist of our era. Amy Scanlon's performance on the audiobook takes it to an even higher level. I truly enjoyed this version and highly recommend it to others.

Great story, great performance

I really wanted to give this an overall rating of five stars, however there were just a few too many of the same or similar words repeated in the same sentence or two, such as
"Through a dim haze, he dimly realized that the door to La Force..."
Other than that, I thought the writing was very good and really enjoyed the story.
The narrator did a very good job.

Drew me in
Revisado: 12-03-24
A well-drawn telling of Princess Alais' many loves and losses. The author does a nice job creating a sense of living in the 12th century yet kept the story very relatable. There are not a lot of immersive setting descriptions, but I didn't seem to miss them since the story moved along at a quick pace. The first person narration brought me close, allowing me to feel each and every emotion. There are many twists and turns in this novel which is very character driven.
