Historia
In Savages, Don Winslow introduced Ben and Chon, twentysomething best friends who risk everything to save the girl they both love, O. Now, in his high-octane prequel, Winslow reaches back in time to tell the story of how Ben, Chon, and O became the people they are. Spanning from 1960s Southern California to the recent past, it is a tale of family in all its forms. As the younger generation does battle with drug dealers and crooked cops, they learn that their future is inextricably linked with their parents' history.

Historia
Jack Wade, a claims adjuster for California Fire and Life Mutual Insurance Company, is one of the best arson investigators around. He's a man who knows fire, who can read the traces it leaves behind like a roadmap. When he's called in to examine an unusual claim, the tracks of the fire tell him that something's wrong. So wrong that he violates his own cardinal rule - "You don't get personal, you don't get emotional. Whatever you do, you don't get involved" - and plunges into the case.

I hope a sequel to this book comes along at some point
Revisado: 01-20-25
This is a thoroughly enjoyable, listen, filled with believable characters and a plot filled with twists. The story brings you right into the evil underbelly of the world we live in.P yet there are always glimmer of hope, sprinkled through seemingly impossible situations. There are characters you are rooting for characters you want to see die and every level in between.p

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Complexity yet simplicity of plot
Revisado: 01-13-25
Another great story my only downside is many of the characters we’ve come to really enjoy in. This series had little to no presence in this installment. Hopefully the next one will take place primarily in three Pines with Ruth, Clara, Gary, etc. playing major roles not just being bystanders.

Historia
Poppy tears, opium, heroin, fentanyl: humankind has been in thrall to the ‘Milk of Paradise’ for millennia. The latex of papaver somniferum is a bringer of sleep, of pleasurable lethargy, of relief from pain - and hugely addictive. A commodity without rival, it is renewable, easy to extract, transport and refine, and subject to an insatiable global demand. No other substance in the world is as simple to produce or as profitable. It is the basis of a gargantuan industry built upon a shady underworld, but ultimately it is a farm-gate material that lives many lives ....

Well researched, comprehensive history of one of the most useful and complicated plants in the history of man
Revisado: 08-27-24
Very well written topic that could be relatively dry was brought to life with facts and history. That were absolutely fascinating. Well worth the time for both the physician and the user regardless of your background and history if you’ve had any contact with the opium poppy and it’s derivatives this Read is well worth your time

A most important and disturbing story that needed to be told
Revisado: 04-05-24
This was a most engaging yet disturbing story that happens every day. While the discussion and exposure of domestic violence was hard to hear, it needs to be be both heard and stopped. As a former domestic violence prosecutor I was glad to hear the raw emotion this heinous crime evicts. But as bad if not worse is the pack mentality American society has descended to over the past 10 years. Scandal sells! People make up stories for their 10 minutes of fame regardless of the lives they destroy, lives of innocent people they know nothing about. This book deserves to be heard/read but don’t expect a warm fuzzy feeling afterwards. Think about it and look for ways to make a difference

Her best yet
Revisado: 09-12-23
this book starts off with competing storylines with very little foreshadowing as to how they are going to come together and although the action is a tad slow, the character development is fantastic and put you right in the middle of the story. This easily could’ve been two separate novels with the same ending, but it was a great job and I look forward to many more
