Would you try another book from Niall Ferguson and/or Simon Prebble?

I would not purchase another book from Niall Ferguson.

What was most disappointing about Niall Ferguson’s story?

That he choose to interweave his ideological opinion in a supposed historical narrative. Poor decision.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Not really. His voice has a bit too much bass for an audiobook in my opinion.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Ascent of Money?

Taken out the political/ideological bent from the author, and stopped the book at present time.

Any additional comments?

The beginning chapters of the book are rather intriguing. However, as soon as the author gets to present time the book goes down hill fast.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Time well spent, yes, but...Unless someone truly appreciates philosophy for what it is, and what it isn't, then this book probably will not be for you. Each chapter is in itself a premise to logically conclude a greater argument, which the author does very well.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The narration. The voice needed more emotion, energy and excitement in the subject matter. It felt dry, uninspired, and can lull the listener to sleep (which is bad for my 1-2 hr driving commute).

What would have made The Righteous Mind better?

An abridged version that removes his desire to explain ad nauseam why he is qualified to write this book. I would like to find a euphemism for blowhard, but this word just fits uncomfortably well.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jonathan Haidt again?

Not a chance.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jonathan Haidt?

Sadly, this would not have made the book any better.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Righteous Mind?

Cut out his overly detailed explanation of how he got from A to B to C. Most Audible listeners are not yearning for a scholarly dissertation in audio format. You are a PhD, write like it.
