Shawn Thornton was an unlikely NHL success, to say the least. The Oshawa, Ontario, native was picked late in the OHL and later thought he was being pranked when the Toronto Maple Leafs called him to say he'd been selected in the seventh round of the 1997 NHL draft. After years spent working and maturing in the AHL, Thornton would go on to play fourteen seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, and Florida Panthers, winning two Stanley Cups along the way.

Great autobiography about an amazing man

I will say my only dislike of this book is the single narrator. There are quotes from friends and family throughout and it's difficult to know when the quote ends. a second narrator for the quotes or a simple "close quote" would fix the confusion.
Shawn Thornton is an amazing guy who has worked his @$$ off to get where he is. He's truly inspiring and it was great to hear his story from his perspective. I can't wait to share this book with my son to show him what it takes to achieve your dreams.

Highly entertaining, great listen

Wacky Sci Fi reminiscent of Terry Pratchett

Originally picked this up based solely on the performers...Weird Al, the guys from Rifftrax, and Jon DiMaggio. Their performances alone sell this audiobook, especially DiMaggio. The story is wacky and reminded me of Pratchett and Dave Barry in the sense of numerous odd events and occurrences that don't really seem plausible but what the hell, let's just see where it goes. Listened to this during a road trip and laughed out loud more than a couple of times. Not a book that requires a lot of attention or deep thought, but great performances make it very enjoyable.

Everything I Didn't know I Wanted to Know

The beauty in this story is that it is read by the author. You can hear his sense of humor and wry thoughts in the reading. His moment of walking up to his first launch and being stunned into silence. Talking about meeting Neil Armstrong and not telling him what every one else does. His candid answer to "Why I wanted to be an Astronaut". My 8 year old also enjoyed listening to Spaceman. I liked how relatable it was for the whole family.
