What disappointed you about Live Wire?

Oh - where to begin - the first hour ?? This is a typical cut and paste from Chapter 1 to the end - characters from every "Myron Bolitar" book Harlan Coben has written - none of whom have improved with age - asking the same questions - repeating the same silly responses - so for me the entire experience was disappointing !!

What could Harlan Coben have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing.

What didn’t you like about Steven Weber’s performance?

It was difficult to tell one character's voice from another - even the women sounded like men.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Live Wire?

If this book had an "editor" he or she should have advised against publishing it.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one - it is a pathetic effort from this author !!

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure, but it won't be anything written by Nora Ephron.

Which character – as performed by Meryl Streep – was your favorite?

None of them - too many crazy people to count !!

What character would you cut from Heartburn?

There are so many characters in this audiobook - every five minutes a new set was added, all of them more neurotic than the other - so cutting one would not have made it worth my time in listening to this nonsense.

Any additional comments?

Meryl Streep was exactly what I expected - wonderful - fantastic !!

Where does No Mark Upon Her rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Deborah Crombie is one of my favorite authors and, after an enjoyable reading of the hardcover version of this book, obviously I wanted the audiobook. However, the narrator spoiled it for me - his voice does not change from one character to another and it is impossible to tell which person is speaking - all the women sound like men - like the narrator - horrible !!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Duncan Kincaid. I've read the entire series and he never fails to entertain me.

How could the performance have been better?

Audible could have offered the version narrated by Jenny Sterlin - she is the best !!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

N/A

Any additional comments?

I will not be listening to any other audiobooks narrated by Gerald Doyle !!

Would you listen to The Great Gatsby again? Why?

Definitely !! Because, in my opinion, it was F. Scott Fitzgerald's finest novel and I find something - a story line or character - to enjoy each time. Also Jake Gyllenhaal's narration was excellent..

What did you like best about this story?

Nick's devotion to Gatsby - or rather to the person Gatsby wanted to become with Daisy.

Which scene was your favorite?

Sorry, cannot choose - loved the scene "Gatsby having tea with Daisy" at Nick's house..

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would not change the title - "The Great Gatsby" is a classic.

Any additional comments?

Yes. My first reading of this novel was over 30 years ago and it still strikes me as strange that Mr. Fitzgerald wrote the lines (for Nick's character ): " .... in the end Gatsby turned out okay ...." (or ...."Gatsby turned out all right" ...."). Gatsby was shot and died in his swimming pool !! Perhaps he meant "okay" or "all right" without Daisy - to Nick's way of thinking. We will never know.

What did you love best about Step-Ball-Change?

Everything !!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Step-Ball-Change?

When Tom tells Trey that Kay loves him - not Jack "The D.A."

Have you listened to any of Jeanne Ray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes - I have all of them and think Step, Ball, Change is her best.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Family Life Is A Dance".

No.

Would you listen to Perfect Touch again? Why?

Yes !! I have read all of the printed novels by this husband and wife writing team and love everything Elizabeth Lowell publishes. I would purchase every audiobook available, but unfortunately the narrator who reads approximately 99% of them is horrible - she absolutely can not "do" the voices of men !! It was delightful to hear Ms. Zanzarella's wonderful narration - more of her please Audible !!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Perfect Touch?

When Sarah and Jay finally take a positive stand against his step-mother and brother. And, of course, there was the truly great love scenes between the two of them !!

What does Nicol Zanzarella bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a remarkable narration - each character is very distinct - obviously that is a treat you can not receive from the printed page.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Perfect Touch" would work for me.

Any additional comments?

No comment on this audiobook - just a question for Audible: you offer many options for your customers, i.e., abridged, unabridged, a variety of languages, etc., why are there no options as to narrators ? In the same manner as Elizabeth Lowell's books - I would purchase the entire series of Stephen White's "Dr. Gregory" audibooks if they were read by another narrator - say Jonathan Davis - but NEVER by the man who "reads" the series offered now.

The Milliner's Secret Audiolibro Por Natalie Meg Evans arte de portada

What disappointed you about The Milliner's Secret?

The deception of the preface vis-a-vis the plot or story. Having recently read "Light of the Moon" by Elzabeth Buchan and found it fascinating, thie brief description of this audiobook caught my attention. Shame on me - will do more research next time - can not believe the reviewers listened to the same book as I.

Would you ever listen to anything by Natalie Meg Evans again?

No

What three words best describe Julie Teal’s performance?

I can not speak Gernman, so can make no comments regarding the critical reviews on the way she pronounces certain words; nor can I think of three words to describe her narration - one imagines she did the best she could considering what she had to read.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Milliner's Secret?

This was not an audiobook with scenes - it was a circus with a variety of characters wandering in and out every five minutes - making no real contribution to the story and disappearing without explanation. The premise of the book - or as much of it as I can understand - is that drop dead gorgeous Cora Masson flees a drunken and abusive father in a small village near London, makes her way to Paris during its occupation by Germany, becomes romantically involved with a high- ranking German officer who changes her name to "Coralie," and surfaces as the owner of a fashionable millinary shop. However, this is the point at which the author turns Coralie into "Super Woman - she sews hats, she sings, she dances, she cooks, she nurses and heals the sick or wounded, she hides various Jewish people from the German authorities - and still finds time to be a mother and dabble in the French underground resistance movement. I have listened to this nonsense almost to the end of Part 2, and am still unable to understand by what magic she, out of all the dozens of characters in the book, escapes notice, capture, internment, etc., by the overly suspicious Gestapo; especially since her lover, Von-whatever (he also has several names), is heavily implicated in a plot to kill Hitler.

Any additional comments?

Save your time and money - buy and listen to "Light of the Moon" - you will enjoy it more than once !!

What made the experience of listening to Split Second the most enjoyable?

I read the printed version when it was first published and at the time only an abridged version was available on tape - this Audible audiobook fully develops the personalities of all the book's characters, adding background, answering questions and thus making it a very pleasant experience.

What did you like best about this story?

The manner in which the author brought the two main characters, Sean and Michelle together; the difference in their lifestyles, work habits and determination to work as partners in solving the mysteries at the heart of the book. I also found it enjoyable that he did not have them fall in love the instant they met as that has been "done" to death (no pun intended) in so many so-called mysteries.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes - many of the audiobooks in my collection were purchased because he was the narrator. His performance was, as always, perfection !

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Split Second" works for me.

Any additional comments?

Great audiobook, excellent narrator and extremely good bargain price !!

Where does Desperate Duchesses rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is difficult to rate this book because it is not serious literature - but rather an imaginary and long party with semi-royals of the 17th century. Compare it to putting down a book written by John Grisham and picking up People magazine - a change of pace just for the pure fun of it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gemma - because she is so worldly, hopeless addicted to chess games and inventive in her choice of partners - not withstanding the fact that she is married to a man who spends his life either with his mistress or in the House of Lords. Loved her !!

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As usual, her narration brings a different voice to each character - even the small boy - making the story more entertaining. I don't believe anyone would find that experience in the printed version of this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not especially, but it is not an emotional story so I didn't expect any reaction of that sort.

Any additional comments?

Try it - you'll enjoy !!!

What would have made The Book Club better?

An exploration of the characters' interest in each other and books.

What could Mary Alice Monroe have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She could have written a book about women who are friends, who enjoy reading and discussing books, stories, plots, etc., together. The characters in this book are not friends, they don't even like each other. A book club - don't think so - there are no discussions about any particular book, only an occasional reference by title.

What didn’t you like about Deanna Hurst’s performance?

Her narration was dull and flat. It is difficult to distinguish one character from another.

What character would you cut from The Book Club?

Doris - she is more interested in showing off her china and table settings than being "friends" or in literary pursuits; she is a 50 year old woman who speaks in clichés about the activities of her husband's mid-life crisis as if it were not patently obvious he is having an affair - his interest in pornography for example, silk boxers - please Doris - get a clue !! Eve - hopelessly naïve about her own husband's extra-marital affair - the weeping red head at his funeral, condoms in his overnight bag, pictures of another woman in a locked box - OMG. Her pretense of a year-long period of grief is unbearably tedious. Annie - is this woman stupid ?? She is an attorney by trade and any first-year law student could have told her - "do your research lady" - having a child at 40+ years of age and all she can do is complain about what is required to accomplish that goal ??

Any additional comments?

Forget about this one - save your money, time and attention. Check out a library copy of "The Jane Austen Book Club" - delightful book. Unfortunately, the narrator spoils it.
