The story is shallow. Both books end abruptly with no resolution. Ray Porter was excellent, as always, but that did not help.

You could cut up the entire manuscript into little pieces, lay it all out randomly and it would be just as interesting.

The premise is well worn and uninspired. Divorced Dad with PTSD should not be the most important part of the storyline.

It is imperative that this story become a prominent part of American history as a chilling reminder of how vulnerable our Republic is to sinister forces. Without Devin Nunes, his team and reporting from Fox News, our country would already be lost. Unfortunately, the performance was marred by mispronunciations and an apparent lack of understanding of the book’s content.

In the afterword, Mr. Jarrett describes the difficulties he endured while writing this book. Indeed, the final product is difficult to consume for the intricate design of bureaucratic evil it reveals. The deeds of the as yet un-prosecuted arch villains caused me to weep for the victims and seethe at the previous administration for its brazen attack on America.

Gotta Understand Skippy

This over-produced episode is at first off-putting; I had to stop and start over to "get" the creative on this title. This is from the point of view of Skippy, who has the maturity of a 5-year old, for all his computational genius. If you got as far as this title in the series, you must be a Skippy fan. (Let's face it, R.C. Bray is a genius at Skippy's personality.)

I would not enjoy this treatment for subsequent Expeditionary Force titles, but this one really delivers a completely new take on Skippy's personality.

I look forward to seeing how or if he matures a little bit, as his treatment of Joe was hard to take sometimes.

Although Mexico’s drug-based economy certainly was depicted with authenticity, some of the violence was hard to get through. Some of the violence did not really advance the story. Dick Hill’s performance, however, never disappoints.

The narrator really beat up this book. His sing-song, one size fits all treatment of each character left the story without a sense of direction. I will read the rest of Nick Petrie’s books on my own.

Really Wrong Narrator

Why an Australian narrator? This is a story about an American character. Mispronunciations reverberated throughout the book, dismantling any possible credibility the book might have had. The story is just OK. There are many details the writer is just not familiar with in order to write believable fiction. I am sorry, but this book is not worth the credit.

John Lee Is Not Johathan Keeble

Revisado: 12-13-17

Would you consider the audio edition of The Burning Land to be better than the print version?

Not at all. After finally getting through the audio version, I have decided to just read the rest of the series, as Jonathan Keeble introduced an energy to this series that cannot be duplicated or replaced.

What other book might you compare The Burning Land to and why?

This book is just an "in-between" story in the series and really cannot stand on its own.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

John Lee was great in the "Pillars of the Earth" series, but his energy is far below that of Jonathan Keeble'. He is just too civilized for this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was just never moved, as the energy was "damp".

Any additional comments?

I regret that you ditched Jonathan Keeble.

Unfortunate Choice of Talent

Revisado: 12-11-17

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Just keep Jonathan Keeber. Tom Sellwood's performance is less than professional. His talent is simply not up to the task.

If you’ve listened to books by Bernard Cornwell before, how does this one compare?

This one is so hard to listen to because of the poor effort of the narrator.

How could the performance have been better?

Tom Sellwood is just the wrong choice for this book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lords of the North?

It is too difficult to get into this book. The narration gets in the way of the story.

Any additional comments?

This production is wasted, unfortunately. If Cornwell decided to re-record this one with Keeber, I would buy it.
