Unexpectedly LOVED this!

It's a little thing, but YAY for representing Jews and degrees of 'Jewishness' in this story. ❤🤗 I felt really seen. And Kudos to the sound production team for correcting Hathaway Lee after the first "Willamette". We locals only give one free pass to say it wrong.

This story was a delightful reflection of pop culture - as well as a sweet, thoughtful, and at times very steamy read.

It also felt very much like there was an actual, semi-obscure Liberal Arts degree informing the writing - IN A GOOD WAY. One of those degrees that rounded the author out as a human being without leading directly into a career field. In this case, the character references Feminism & Human Sexuality. Loved it. 100% believed it. Made the content so much better.

A treat for old K-Drama & K-Pop fans like me

Silly, sexy, obvious, and -at times- very cringey. I'm a decades-long fan. The club plotline reminded me a lot of the Burning Sun club and similar crimes pulled from Korean news in the last several years. Really enjoyed.

Weirdly forgettable?

As much as I like this author, I forgot everything about this book as soon as I finished it. What does that even say about it? I'm guessing that I found it so similar to some of her other stories that it just blurred together with them. Maybe someday I'll give it another try. - Meh.

Big fan of both the author and narrator. Have already re-read the whole Secret Scientists of London series and started in on the spin-off Damsels of Discovery series. I highly recommend them.

Enjoyed way more than expected - great series!

I didn't expect to love this as much as I did based on the description. So much more than the typical bluestockings romance trope. I loved the attention to detail and realism that went along with this modern take. A great start to a great series. I was already a fan of this narrator. Am a new fan of the author.

I've already listened to this book a few times, as well as the rest of the series and the start of her next series. Highly recommend.

If you like the author's previous work, you'll like this. Perhaps a bit formulaic or repetitive. But feels like an extension of the universe she writes and her characters live in.

Wrong choice for FMC narrator. So weird!

I kept waiting for the part of the story that explained why the female main character speaks exclusively in a North American accent (but with a UK vocabulary). But, no... It's just a GLARING OVERSIGHT FROM THE AUDIO PRODUCTION TEAM. The character is born and raised in Scotland and spends her entire adult life in London. Voice actress EmmaClaire Brightlyn even does a Scottish accent for *other* characters, just not the FMC. It's so bizarre!!! Who makes these choices? Why? It's such a shame. It was honestly REALLY distracting in what was otherwise a fun story and great listen. I have no choice but to rate the audiobook significantly lower than I would rate a physical copy.

Compliments to voice actor Martin Quinn. He was a perfect narrator for the male main character.

Please, please re-record this audiobook. It was so confusing.

It's very 1990s - needs a hard edit.

Not surprising, considering this WAS written in the 1990s. But still... This feels dated enough that it made me cringe at times. Beyond outdated terminology (some of which I am genuinely uncomfortable quoting), this also relied on stereotypes to depict more than one ethnic group in ways I found questionable.

The romance of it all, the storyline between our two lead characters also has a lot of rape-y undertones. It just feels like the way society views certain concepts has shifted enough to make parts of this more icky than romantic. (Concepts like: power disparity, consent, date rape, victim-blaming, forced pregnancy risk.)

Loved the female narrator. She seemed to struggle through the first few spicy scenes, but got the hang of it by the end. The male narrator seemed like an odd choice though... I don't know where he's actually from, but he didn't quite nail a generic American English accent (certain words and vowels just sounded off) *OR* a Kiwi accent. His version of a New Zealander comes across somewhere between South Africa/Afrikaans and a generic UK English accent. Bad enough to distract from my immersion in the story. Ouch.

Enjoyed the story though. A bit unique for this genre. Fun, fresh setting. Good world-building for the first in a new series.

...A little confused by the random foreskin convo in the story though. Like circumcised penises are some great mystery or need special care?? If you need extra lube, you're doing it wrong. :-/
