You have got to be kidding. This book is utterly dreadful. Please work a little more conscientiously to select books worthy of the listener.

This book is utterly ridiculous. The author was given a few phrases such as "for a long moment", "through narrowed eyes", "caught her gaze" and so forth and built hours and hours of dialogue around them. The premise is crazy, too. How many women who have been dishonored long for more? P-l-e-a-s-e..................

Historia
In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself. Or did he? Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Who was the crooked little "color man" Vincent had claimed was stalking him across France? And why had the painter recently become deathly afraid of a certain shade of blue? These are just a few of the questions confronting Vincent's friends who vow to discover the truth of van Gogh's untimely death.

This was awful. It is getting more and more difficult to find a good fiction book on Audible. I wish I knew how to get this one expunged from my library.

The title is fine as is
Revisado: 08-12-18
Perhaps I would give this a better "Overall" rating if the reader had given the stories half a chance. It is difficult to rate "Story" since it was several Sherlock Holmes stories, but they all seemed as though they might be fine if the reader had been able to put any life into them, or any distinctions between character voices. This book deserves another chance. It is too bad the narrator who did the honors was the one chosen.

There were far too many subplots to this story, and much more information than was necessary. I finally gave up out of boredom and frustration. Yargh. Tell the author to calm down. Hopefully she is young and can spin this book and her future ideas into more manageable chunks of literature. Also, the narrator needed much attention from a listener who is not so familiar with French accents.

I was disappointed in the narrator. Her reading was not very inspirational and the fact that she could not keep track of pronunciations, for example Mrs. Churchill's first name was occasionally Clementine, and other times Clementeen, was distracting to say the least.

Good stories, poor recording?
Revisado: 01-18-16
What made the experience of listening to The Clairvoyant Countess the most enjoyable?
Fun stories, but unless one listens for periods of time, it is difficult to realize these stories are linked.
If you’ve listened to books by Dorothy Gilman before, how does this one compare?
I prefer the continuity of Mrs. Polifax stories
Did Ruth Ann Phimister do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
The reader was good. She has a rich voice and is good with accents and pacing
Any additional comments?
I believe the problem might have been technical. The recording was not smooth. I had to rewind to get segments to make sense.

"You go, girl" takes on new meaning!
Revisado: 09-17-12
Would you listen to Gone Girl again? Why?
The plot was diabolical, well crafted, and well portrayed by the two readers. Yet, after the "gone girl's" plot is revealed at the end, the whole story is more fun to ponder than to dissect line by line.
What other book might you compare Gone Girl to and why?
Oddly enough, The Night Circus, which I also loved. They were different from each other, yet had the same strong pull to keep the reader/listener engaged and surprised right up to the end.
What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I wondered about that, too, since I only took in the book auditorially. The readers seemed so real and so honest in their portrayals that it took quite a while to figure out who "the bad guy" was going to turn out to be.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No laughter, no tears, just a curiosity about the future these two created for the people involved in their lives.
Any additional comments?
It's a good listen!
