Epic as expected, yet...

I'm constantly astounded by the breadth of what is being created here. I've never before experienced a world where almost every sentence lays the groundwork for another story. Rich and fulfilling, is it at all appropriate to judge this epic in pieces?

The writing sings

A splendid addition; the writing is superlative even if the plot was slightly obvious. These books are an absolute treasure. They have changed my perspective on the world in a manner I would never have expected. Thank you, again, Mr Osman.

The reality of a new narrator threw me, I'm not going to lie, but not to worry, two or three chapters in you're happily back with friends. Another solid outing for the fab four.

Stupendous

The first book was a wonderful surprise; here Richard Osman hits his stride with beautifully crafted characters and this adventure absolutely knocks it out of the park. I genuinely care for the main characters and some of the interplay between them is sheer genius that I've genuinely rewound (do we still say rewound?) and listened to it again just to relive the "scene". Expertly crafted characterisation like nothing I recall ever experiencing before. Thank you Mr Osman and Ms Manville.

I generally stay away from stories with older characters but here I am, reflecting on a truly interesting book with genuinely likeable characters. Nicely done indeed.

This is perhaps the best storytelling I've experienced. I am breathless from sheer admiration of what's being achieved in this story. I don't think I've ever been so torn between wanting to experience the next part of the story versus what I have just done.

Long-form Agatha Christie

I'm not sure if I've just not read enough mysteries but this series more and more echoes Agatha Christie for me, except for the interplay between Strike and Robin of course. A solid entry and compelling mystery but probably a bit long in getting to its conclusion... not that I'm really complaining. How long before the next one "Mr. Galbraith"?
