Oh, that was what was changing the market
Revisado: 01-18-20
This book puts faces with the general talk about quant traders. Although this book is a legacy book for main character, it does provide an interesting story. My only request is more info on the specific math and insights the fund used and uncovered. If he wants a legacy, share his findings and contribute the knowledge as a true scientist would. Dalio did his own legacy book but he shared more specifics and sought to share his findings with society.

Historia
As one of the most potent turning points in the country's modern history, the Opium War has since come to stand for everything that today's China seeks to put behind it. In this dramatic, epic story, award-winning historian Stephen Platt sheds new light on the early attempts by Western traders and missionaries to "open" China even as China's imperial rulers were struggling to manage their country's decline and Confucian scholars grappled with how to use foreign trade to China's advantage.

Engaging audio book. Many history books are a struggle to get through. This one kept my interest and was eye opening. It is skewed towards the British perspective and characters.

Well worth the read if you like F1 or not - applicable to business
Revisado: 01-04-18
Andrian opened the door to closed world of formula one development and competition.
You don’t have to be an engineer to understand and appreciate how they compete.
It is applicable to businesses and leaders. Mr Newey was candid about the business and personal aspects of this highly competitive business.
One of the great sports books I have read that has applicable lessons to apply in other fields.

Pretty good you will better understand what Elon is doing and why
Revisado: 11-15-17
Worth reading. The book provides a window into the world of an guy that is leaving his mark on the world and why he is doing it. It seemed to be two perspectives or tones. The side that explored Elon’s unique personality and the other that was very enthusiastic about reporting what Elon did. The author had a tough job of pulling out the information from people that may not wanted to share it and still getting Elon to open up and engage while communicating the downsides of working in the Elon sphere. Well worth the time to read. The first 2/3 of book is amazing.

Access through perspective
Revisado: 09-24-17
The writer through his skeptical perspective gives the reader a chance to access a subject that is often obscured by flowery language. Learning how to tame and then maximize our mind is something all human beings can benefit from and is the new growth industry. We can't buy happiness but we can learn how to control the monkey mind that is making us miserable. Well done. One thing if it drags a little in first few chapters with some of the setup story, stick with it. It is kind of like meditation it takes a little discipline to get to the good stuff. Enjoy!

It's rare to start a book stop half way and come back more than a year later but I did. The concepts at the start seemed a little repetitive but I my mind kept using the concepts described at start of book and second half of book went into more detail and depth. Great stuff.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

Great book, don't let the title throw you
Revisado: 01-14-17
Michael Lewis is a great writer. I almost didn't read the book based on the title. My wife suggested it and at first it didn't appeal. If you enjoy Taleb and Black Swan thinking this book covers what Taleb references over and over. The book has an amazing symmetry and the title comes into focus at the end in more than one way and the most interesting and ironic is the most subtle

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.
